    3. Peggy, I have the record that states Capt Roberts commanded Co C of the 4th Bn Cav and even prior to that, he was 1st Lt, Co K, 15th Ala Inf Rgt; he resigned for health reasons in Va in Dec 1861 and later formed his cav co; I would suspect that his health kept him from being in NC at the surrender; as I had stated earlier, he was probably with the Eufaula Minute Men at the time of the surrender for that reason; yes Capt McKenzie's command was paroled at Greensboro May 1, 1865. 1. [ALBARBOU] Andrew J. Glover
    2. Margie, I am happy to report to you that Andrew's Confederate Veteran's marker has been erected at Rocky Mt. and looks very nice. I successfully erected my GG Grand Turner Howell's marker today also but let me tell you, this body of mine is paying for it tonight. At 270 lbs., (I believe that is what Homer said they weighed), and a haul of about 60' in the midday heat, was a little more than my out of shape self can stand. Sometimes I don't exercise good judgment. I only had my wife to help me because stubborn me, thought I could do it by myself. I'll know better next time. Anyway it looks real nice. That's what counts. Richard SOS 6-3

    2. Hi Homer: Thanks for your letter re: Gilmore, William M. in WAR. I got the following in Montgomery some years back: CONFEDERATE MILITARY RECORDS//Gilmore, William Marion...........Company (H or K) 1st Reg. Ala. Vol., Private Applicant; (Mrs. M.M. Gilmore) Widow. Authority: Pension Application. Bullock County. May 26th 1889 On copies of four applications, H Company, 1st Regiment of Alabama Volunteers is mentioned. In records at the Columbus-Bradley Library I found: W.M. Gilmore Capt. Faulkner's Ala Cav......Chamber's Cav Sub. assigned Wade's 8 regiment company The book on Pike County soldiers list William M. Gilmore as killed at Look Out Mountain. I believe there was a W.M. Gilmer and a W.M. Gilmore. One of the family stories was that he died of disease at Look Out Mountain. I haven't been able to find out anything for certain. Thanks again.....I have not responded sooner due to the storm taking out my modem on Thursday night. I just got a replacement today. John Gilmer

    2. Thanks, Homer. George A Roberts was a. Capt in the Jeff Davis Legion also. He is buried in Fairview Cemetery. According to Anne Kendrick Walker in Backtracking in Barbour" he rode with J. E. B. Stuart. I don't know why, since they both were in Love's Calvary, they were not together at the war's end. Family history said B. B. McKenzie surrendered at Greensboro. I wonder where Capt. Roberts was at that time' Peggy

Stuart, as a part of Stuart's Cav Corps, Army of Northern Va; he is buried in Fair- view Cemetery, Eufaula; George A. Roberts of Eufaula served as 1st Lt, "Eufaula Minute Men" and would not have been in NC at the surrender. Deo Vindice, Homer

    2. Lynn: Have you checked records of Chimborazo Hospital in Richmond. We looked for years before we found my GG Grandfather who supposedly died of measles. That is not what the diagnosis said. Anyway, it took my Mom several inquiries to locate him. Seems once he died, they simply said they had no record. She had to follow him through the months prior to his death in order to locate. Also received an amazing amount of information from the National Park service once we did locate his death record. This pertained to his burial. Good Luck and don't give up. Norie

Dakota, I think; after a call I rec mine in about five weeks; I will try to locate the number and get back to you. Deo Vindice, Homer
