List, Does anyone on the list know how much trouble it would be to open, establish, and maintain a cemetery preservation fund that would be funded by charitable contributions? Has anyone ever done anything like this? I have not. Would any of the folks that lived in Barbour be willing to be respsonsible for the management of the account? My thought is that I could to do primary record look-ups of at least the following materials "for free". I would, of course, also mail any records found to the person making the request. 1. AL CSA service records 2. AL CSA pension files 3. Rev War service records (local library does not have all - but a good percentage) 4. 1812 Military Land Bounty records 5. southeast US census records (almost all states, all years until 1900), many after 1900. 6. any books you find in the Huntsville, AL public library card cartalog at: http://www.hpl.lib.al.us/ 7. bunch of stuff I can't think of right now!! In return, the person making the request could make a charitable donation made out to the fund (not me!) that could be deducted from your income tax. You would get the records for a potentially reduced price, help the cemetery preservation project, and get a tax deduction. As for fees - we could haggle that out. Seems like many requests from NARA cost at least $10. However, I am no expert on NARA fees. Someone else might have a better idea of what the actual fees are. How about a fee of $5-$7, with an additional amount if the file is large (copying costs)? Initially, I would like to limit requests to just us listers, since I am not sure how much time I would have to devote. What do you think? Is this legal? Would it be a nighmare to administer? Would folks constantly get into arguments about which cemeteries needed work, and what work needed to be done? I must admit I have one I would love to see restored - Ephesus - home of several of my WESTBROOK family members. It was in very sad shape the last time I visited. I would also be willing to donate "seed money" to the project. Anyone interested in this???? Thanks, Terri

Years ago when Ozark was going to dig another city water well they were going to finance the deal (naturally). Someone asked what would happen if the city couldn't make the payments. The reply was, "How would you go about reposing a water well." I thought that was kind of like not moving one of those markers, once in cement.
Alto Henderson married Rose Anna Pitts in Barbour County, Alabama on Feb 6th, 1908, I am looking for the parents of alto

If you have a female ancestor from the State of Ga who seems to have fallen off the edge of the earth late in the war, this may be for you. www.georgiascv.com Search for mill workers, then click on New from Georgia and scroll down to the story. Deo Vindice, Homer

The Eufaula Tribune just did a story about two weeks ago with Margaret Russell taking a reporter to Beauchamp, Perkins, and Thornton Cemeteries. Have not seen any reaction at all since it ran. Richard Price SOS 6-3
Nothing in Godfrey's work on your Maddox, Henderson, or Hall. Richard Price SOS 6-3
Margie, My wife will try to get in touch with Barbour County Assistant DA, Bill Grubb, who has done some legal work on cemetery plots to ask the question about cemetery access. I will let you know when I get a response. Richard Price SOS 6-3

Cal, That's the one. Turner Howell married Ezekiel's daughter Mary Jane at the home of Ezekiel, 4 Aug 1854. Turner is my GG Grand. My mother is Jill Howell Price, d/o Bertrum Lee "Bert" Howell, who was the son of Robert Lee "Bob" Howell, who was the son of Turner Howell. I have much information on Turner but the name of his father has eluded me since I began to work on this line over a year ago. Richard Price SOS 6-3
Terri, I think it is a fantastic idea but I don't know the first thing about administering such a thing logistically. Before we get too far off in any kind of planning stage I guess we need Margie's input first since we are talking about doing it through the list and/or website. Richard Price SOS 6-3
Thank you so much, Homer! I have been trying to trace those two down for the longest. You're truly a "peach." Joyce
OK folks, I have been up late this evening trying to get all my updates done. I added lots to the page. For those that sent me info to add I would look for it and I would not trust that Margie Daniels as far as I could throw her. Look around if it is not there I don't have it. Just let me know and I promise I will add it to the site. I am finally caught up. Teri, be sure and check for your records. I just don't think I have all yours in since the crash. I want to thank everyone for making this such a great place to work. Sabrina, thanks for all your efforts on the cemeteries. E Ya Later, Will someone let me know if Anne won the election. Margie
Bill, The following Confederate soldiers are buried at Blair-Bishop Cemetery: John W. Blair, Oct 25, 1836-Jun 19, 1900; Corp, Co G, 29th Ala Inf Rgt; s/o William and Elizabeth Blair. S. Blair, Co C, 7th Ala Cav, no dates. Wesley Bishop, Oct 20, 1819-Jul 4, 1879; Pvt, Co F, 1st Ala Inf Rgt. There is also an A. Turner there: Jun 15, 1819-Oct 4, 1899; highly suspect that is Allen Turner, Pvt Co A, 57th Ala Inf Rgt, but have not been able to confirm it. Deo Vindice, Homer
Joyce, The 7th Ala Inf Rgt was a 12 month rgt and after enlistments expired in Apr or May 1862, it was disbanded; a number of those from Barbour who had served in the 7th, re-enlisted in the 39th Ala Inf Rgt; the following men of the McKinnon line appear on a muster rolled for Co C, 39th Ala Inf Rgt dtd May 15, 1862 at Opelika, Ala: Daniel M., age 20, Daniel N., age 25 and John S., age 23; near the end of the war, the 39th Ala was consolidated w/ other rgts and those who had served in Co C of the 39th were transferred to Co H of the 22d Ala; only one, John S. was present to surrender in NC in May 1865. Deo Vindice, Homer
Joyce, Alexander D. McKinnon, 1844-1919; would have enlisted around Jan 1863 as Pvt, Co B, 57th Ala Inf Rgt; near the end of the war his Co became Co G, 27th Ala Inf; he surrendered with Co G of the 27th May 1, 1865 in Greensboro, NC; the records do not show that the 57th or 27th Ala ever served in Va; buried Pea River Presbyterian Church Cemetery, just north of Clio. I find two C.W. Hicks; the first served as Sgt, Co H, 3d Bn, Ala Reserves; to have served w/ that unit he would have been quite young or older; Since he held the rank of Sgt, I would think he was was older, in the 45 plus area; the other C.W. Hicks served as Pvt, Co D, 3d Bn, Hilliard's Legion; the Legion was disbanded in Nov 1863 after an earlier battle at Chickamauga, Ga where the Legion lost about fifty- percent of its men; upon disbandment, the men were transferred to either the 59th or 60th Ala Inf rgts or the 23d Bn, Ala Sharpshooters; I do find him in any of the three, so its possible that he did not survive Chickamauga or was too badly injured and could not continue to serve; C.W. or Charles W. Hicks is not recorded as being buried in present day Pike County Deo Vindice, Homer
