    3. I have added Warrine Hathaway's link to the book section. You may want to take a look at the page she is offering a discount for purchasing online. This is not a spam, it is not a commerical endeavor. She is not paying me. Just wanted to make that clear. Just wanted to let the list know just in case someone may need to purchase a book. Remember if you donate to your libary the donation is tax deductible. After I finish transcribing my microfilm I donate them to my library. There is another thing that I do that is odd. Everyone on this list knows I am an odd ball anyway I hate sending flowers when someone dies. I think it is a total waste of money. Only makes the florists richer, have nothing against a florist but I have a different way of remembering the person. I try and find out where the person was from I then purchase some microfilm, book or some other genealogy reference material and donate it to the library in their name. My library puts the In Memory of and from on the box of microfilm or in the front of the book. Everytime someone picks up the item they are remembered by someone. I purchased 50 rolls of film in my father's name. My library now has the entire death index for the state of Tennessee. And so it goes. Margie

    3. Bob, Thanks much for the kind words, but you can bet it has nothing to do with memory; I can get up at night to put the cat out and by the time I get to the door, I've forgotten why I'm there. The Norris' you spoke of had served during the war; five of them and I think, all had survived; Robert was a Dr and graduate of Mobile Medical College, much in demand down there; while in Brazil, he m. a Miss Steagall from Texas; I have a photo of her taken in Rio; the Keyes I had spoken of earlier were from Montgomery. I was stationed in Brazil for a time during WW II in an anti-submarine patrol squadron; sadly, at the time, I had never heard of a Confederado. Deo Vindice, Homer

    3. Homer - You must have a photographic memory and/or a file of facts that dwarfs many libraries. You amaze me...and every body else, I think. I have kicked around some pretty good libraries in years past and can't imagine where you've found so much civil war material. Anyhow, as so many before me have said, "Keep up the good work!" Anyway, you've shown Barbara County folks were involved in the migration, although, apparently, none of my kin were. As for the Norris family, I checked the 1860 census index and found no Norris in Barbour Co.. There was a William Norris in Pike Co and a Robert in Madison Co, I think it was. I have been touched by the character and determination of the people who made that trip. It not only says a lot about what the real issues were to them, but I think sometimes we overlook what strong, independent, self-made worthy people made up that society.
