    1. [ALBARBOU] Barbour Mt. Zion cemeteries
    2. Jim and Terri Tait
    3. Margie, Mt. Zion in Barbour is confusing - there are at least four (ones with ** denote cemeteries that are either Black, or have Black sections): (**)MOUNT ZION CHURCH CEMETERY T10N, R26E, S29 County Hwy 43, 1/2 north Of County Hwy 53 Intersection (**)MOUNT ZION CHURCH CEMETERY 32o01'21"N 085o13'00"W T12N, R28E, S15 County Hwy 89, 3/4 mile South Of Hawkinsville (**)MOUNT ZION CHURCH CEMETERY T10N, R24E, S20 County Hwy 9, 3 miles South Of Boot Hill MOUNT ZION CHURCH CEMETERY T9N, R24E, S13 State Hwy 51 1/2 mile SW of Baxter I looked through Marie Godfrey's cemetery book, but did not see the LEWIS names that Linda mentioned. Ms. Godfrey only has one Mt. Zion surveyed - listed as being in "Beat 8". I am not sure exactly where this is, but I do not see any LEWIS family members in the listing. There is also a LEWIS family cemetery in Bullock (used to be Barbour) on north side of County Hwy 14, .6 miles west of intersection of Hwy 51. I will post it in the next email. Sorry I could not be of more help. Maybe Bonnie or one of the other cemetery folks can tell if any of the other Mt. Zion cemeteries is the correct one. Terri -----Original Message----- From: M. 3. Linda, The church you are looking for is most likely Mt. Zion Baptist Church, CR 9, NW of Louisville near the Barbour/Pike line; William H.H. "Tobe" Lewis, Feb 4, 1839-Oct 10, 1914 is there; served in the CW as Pvt, Co K, 29th Ala Inf Rgt; enlisted at Clayton Mar 10, 1862, age 21; wounded at Kenesaw Mt., Ga Jun 18, 1864 and again at Peachtree Creek, Ga Jul 20, 1864; son of Benjamin and Anna J. Creech Lewis; I am told he never married. Deo Vindice, Homer

    3. Homer I got out of the loop on this one. I had almost forgot. The Tennessee information is now on the National Park service web site for the Civil War. Go to this site and it may help. http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm I helped transcribe that information, it was part of the UDC project. I know all the states were working on theirs. It took them over 3 years to get it up on the site after we had completed the transcribing. If this don't work. Send the info to me. I live in Tennesseea and my library or Shiloh should have the info. This will give me a good excuse to run up to Shiloh. I live about 90 miles away they have a data base with all the CSA info on it. 3. Doris, Although I have no idea where he is buried, if I can track the rgt up to the time of his death, maybe that will help a bit: The 45th came together at Auburn in May 1862 and was sent immediately to Corinth, then Tupelo, Miss where it lost a large number to disease; in the coming autum, it moved in Ky and fought at Perryville Oct 8, 1862 w/ heavy losses; it fought next at Murfreesboro, Tenn Dec 31, 1862- Jan 3, 1863; following the fight there, the Army pulled back and encamped along what was called the "Duck River Line", in the area of Tullahoma, Bell Buckle, Beech Grove, Shelbyville and War Trace in middle Tenn and stayed there until June 1863; since Martha filed her claim May 2, 1863, he must have died in one of the above areas; I have checked all the Confederate Cemetery Records I have for Tenn, which are few and did not find his burial location; I have no Ky records and very few for Miss. Sorry I could not help, Deo Vindice, Homer

    3. I want to pass along one of my favorite search sites for photos. This is a site has over 55,000 black and white images and 1600 color images in American history. I use the site for old depression photos. They have a lot for Alabama and also Georgia. This collection includes the famous picture by Dorothy Lange of the Mother holding a child during the depression. Since we are in the middle of a drought like that one of the dust bowl era these pictures show just how bad it was for residents in Alabama and sure gave me a better understanding why people left. Enjoy, Marige
