Jonathan T McCrary (b 1841 d. 1896, Autauga Co) was a teacher before and after the Civil War and during the war served in G company of the 31st Georgia Volunteer Infantry. Because he was a young teacher before the war and sergeant (and for a long stretch, ranking member of his company) in a unit attached to the Army of Northern Virginia under Stonewall Jackson, I would think it is likely that he wrote about the experience. And especially since I was able to find accounts of the war written by many of his comrades in A History of the 31st Georgia Volunteer Infantry by Gregory C. White. There are many other descendants of Jonathan McCrary in the area so I guess it is worth a shot asking if anyone knows if any of his letters or writings exist?
