The Alabama Territory (not the State of Alabama) was established in 1817 from the western half of the Mississippi Territory. Further, “Autauga Co., AL” was not created until Nov. 21, 1818 and it was created from Montgomery Co. of the Alabama Territory. Thus, one could state the following: Susan D. Graves was born in Montgomery Co., of the Alabama Territory in the part of the county was cut off to create Autauga Co. The Mississippi Territory was created May 7, 1798 and included what would eventually become the States of Mississippi and Alabama. As stated above, the portion that became the Alabama Territory in turn became the State of Alabama, but not until Nov. 21, 1818. The State of Mississippi was created on Dec. 10, 1817. In 1795 what would eventually become the State of Alabama was totally occupied by several Indian Tribes. Therefore, it appears your Frank Taylor may have been born in the State of Georgia.
