Author: rebecca_grundmeyer Surnames: moore lowery francis slagel von schlegel Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.autauga/12747.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: wow! and hello! you have just explained something i was suspicious about. my grandmother recorded a few things wrong about her grandchildren's vitals so, when i found a young woman named addie m living with george c and sarah m in 1910 hannibal i began strongly believing they were my family. i just needed confirmation. i was suspecting george jr. was not her father, as her bible indicates, but either a brother, or a gr. grandfather,and that george c. was actually her grandfather. thank you for clearing that up. i, also, am beginning to believe her recording of her mother, mintie valetta,('s) parents was wrong, too. i have looked under all the variations of mintie i could think of, but the problem was her listing of henery oliver and mary francis as mintie's parents. at first i was going on francis as being a middle name. then this last spring i ran across a listing in familysearch.org of a minta v. lowery, born nov/dec 1869 in macon co mo. it said this woman's parents were james o lowery, born about 1840 ohio, and margaret francis, born about 1848, il. i've tried writing the author of the listing, but got no response. margaret francis's people go way back to the 15 and 1600s, to germany to the von schlegels, and came partly from a village where von schlegels were jewish and taken to concentration camps in ww2. their name had many variations over here, including slagel (margaret's mother's name), and your last name. now i know that is not your wife's maiden name, but i find ! your last name interesting because of it. i had also come to the conclusion perry and mary purse were, indeed, sarah's parents, and followed perry, and sarah's siblings, thru the census records. thanks for the confirmation there, too. you must have more access to genealogy records than i. i've not had much money to devote to the project so, your findings are a special blessing to me. thank you! my grandmother had to obtain a birth certificate after she grew up. i think what may have happened was somehow her parents died, or were left out of the picture while she was young. possibly she was raised the rest of the way by george and sarah, and did not have real access to the lowery side. it could explain why she recorded her grandfather as george wesley jr. but did not know his wife's name, yet knew her supposed gr. grandparents' names. there is still the mystery of what happened to george wesley and mintie (minta?). i believe i read somewhere the minta v.'s (i spoke about in familysearch) father died soon after she was born. if that is so, another specualtion might be she is our mintie, and was raised by a stepfather? and that is why we haven't been able to find her??? anyway, if i have it figured right your wife would be my dAd's cousin. what is her name? we don't have many pictures on this side because most were lost in a fire but, if you like i could send you a couple of my dad, including one of him and addie taken in the 1960s. would you like copies? would you happen to have any you are willing to share of addie and her people? i would gladly pay for printing and postage. a very happy day to you, and many good blessings.
