My wife's grandmother's parents were George Wesley Moore and Mary Ellen Hunter and they lived in the area of Hannibal, MO. We have been trying, unsuccessfully, for several years to find any information on George Wesley Moore. The only information we have is that he possibly served in World War I, was severely wounded and sent home. He and Mary Ellen separated or divorced and she re-married. The date of George and Mary Ellen's marriage is about 1915 or 1916 and the date of their divorce would be about 1918. Other than this, we really don't know anything. So, your posting is very exciting. Anyway, based on the information in your posting, I did some checking and found some things for you. George Chauncy Moore was born 14 March 1842 in Iowa or New York to parents from New York. I don't know what his father's name was, but his mother's name was Mary. He died 8 February 1923 in Hannibal, MO. In the 1880 census, he is living in Hannibal with his wife, Sarah (age 33) and children; George (age 11), Clara (age 7) and Maude (age 5). He is listed as G.C. Moore in the census. In the 1900 census, he is living in Hannibal with his wife, Sarah (age 51). The census shows that they've been married for 30 years and that they had 6 children with 2 still living. In the 1910 census, he is living in Hannibal with his wife, Sarah (age 62) and grandaughter; Addie (age 18) (this would be your grandmother). In the 1920 census, he is living in Hannibal with his wife, Sarah (age 73). Sarah was born 15 September 1847 in Hydesburg, Ralls County, Missouri. She died 29 July 1927 in Hannibal. Her father's name was Perry Purse and her mother's name was Mary. Here is what I think, and I know it won't correspond exactly with the information from your grandmother's bible. But, here goes. George Chauncy Moore and Sarah Matilda Purse had a son named George Wesley Moore born about 1869 and apparently died before 1910. George Wesley Moore married Mintie Valeta Lowery and they had 2 children; Addie Mae Moore and George Wesley Moore, Junior. George Wesley Moore, Junior is the father of my wife's grandmother. If we can find the family of George Wesley Moore and Mintie Valeta Lowery in the 1900 census, we may be able to determine exactly how many children they had as well as the names of the children. Oh, George Chauncy Moore and Sarah Matilda Purse also had a daughter named Clara. Clara married Edwin Walley and they are living next door to her parents, in Hannibal, in the 1920 census. Clara is also the informant on her mother's death certificate. Go to this website for George Chauncy Moore's death certificate. http://sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/results.asp?type=basic&tLName=moore&tFName=george&sCounty=Marion&tYear=1923 Go to this website for Sarah Matilda (Purse) Moore's death certificate. http://sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/results.asp?type=basic&tLName=moore&tFName=sarah&sCounty=Marion&tYear=1927 Maybe working together, we can find out more about this family. I look forward to any additional information you may have that could open new avenues for research. Don Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
