As soon as I get my wheelchair repaired I am going to St Matthews, SC once again (Our progenitors lived there before removing to Ala) I have a good friend who lives there. Also we have a Houser cousin who lives there. It is thrilling to ride through the lands we know belonged to our ancestors. Very little was left unburned when the Yankees came through as it is 25 miles south of the capitol, Columbia. The Invaders burned homes, caried off stock and food and left the citizens broken. We do know where the John Whetstone meeting house was although it was burned. Bishop Asberry speaks of it in his account. He said they were producers of Indigo. We know where the Whetstones lived. An old Houser home still stands, although we have not figured out why it was not burned with the rest of the homes and the courthouse.* I have been to the site of hte old Houser Mill; Andrew Jr and Margaret are buried near the mill site. Andrew Houser, Jr. married Margaret Stoudenmire. Their daughter, Elizabeth married Rev Henry Whetstone, son of Elizabeth Horger and Rev John Whetstone Their son, Lewis Myers Whetstone married Sophia Murph (She was a Stoudenmire) Their son was Lewis Myers, Jr.was your direct ancestor. CuzAnne * Some legal documents from the courthouse were recovered because copies were sent elsewhere as required by law at that time, So we do have some things such as Andrew Houser'w willk old Tax records, some deeds, etc. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Maury Covington" <mcovsr@mac.com> To: <alautaug@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, October 23, 2006 6:50 PM Subject: Re: [ALAUTAUG] Heritage of Autauga County Book on sale > Thanks for the tip.
