    1. Re: [ALAUTAUG] Hunt family
    2. Must be a different line. My line goes back to Henry Hunt from NC who settled in Autauga Co in 1824. He was married to Sara Burt. The information I'm seeking is new to me, so I have little to go on. Apparantly my great uncle knew of the three half aunts and unlce, but no one was close to them. My mother said she never knew of the second marriage of her g-grandfather, much less the three children from the marriage. I'll hit the archives, next, and see if it provides any further information. I appreciate your help. 3. Helo Steve, I checked the link about Hurd-Grey and have seen it lots of times. Jeff Thomson- who contributed the info is a distant relation of mine that I met while researching. We have been exchanging info for about 2-3 years now. He is very GOOD! But he only has minimal info about my direct line. He is a very respected genealogist though. I am pasting info I retyped with both Jeff's description and one with comment fron another Taylor distant realtion who sent me all his info this past summer - J Taylor, from Oklahoma City, OK. One of his family members - also interviewed Mrs. George and got some pretty good info about Amelia being the daughter of landowner, Mr. Grey. John & Amelia are my GGG-Grandparents. I also have a deed copy signed by John Taylor (the son of John and Amelia Taylor) who sold property to a Francis Gray on October 13, 1837. My great-grandfather , Jesse Taylor, their son would have only been 1 year old. It has all three of their signatures. Contact me and I will put you two in contact also. It was sent from a Gray Descendant - contact me and I will put you two Grays in contact. She found it on microfilm in the courthouse at Prattville, Autauga Co., AL. She also thinks Amelia is a Gray/Grey. You two need to talk and exchange also! PLEASE, keep me in the loop and hopefully we can get this detail proved! Contact me at: pamela.moorman@sbcglobal.net The following information was provided on November 6, 1997 by a descendant of the Taylor Family and has been added to this file. Joe Taylor, Oklahoma City, OK The Hurd-Grey Cemetery – Elmore, AL (Posted originally on Rootsweb by Jeff Thomson 3/2000 – he says that census was taken by an unknown descendant of John & Milly Taylor in 1988) DIRECTIONS: Elmore County: Go north on Hwy 111 and turn left on County Raod 228. After passing Liberty Hill Church, turn right on the next road. Mrs. Laura George lives in the last house. the cemetery is on her property, approximately 1 mile from the road. Map Location: Township. 19, Range 18, Section 34 (This dialog is from J. Taylor, OK) According to Mrs. George, Amelia Taylor was the daughter of Mr. Grey, the plantation owner. she also said that several graves marked with rocks are thought to be Indian graves. “I believe Amelia & John Taylor are white and the rest buried here are Indian and/or black” (Not sure WHO is quoted here). *Amelia, wife of John Taylor Jan. 17, 1774 July 4, 1834 *John Taylor Jan. 1, 1772 Feb. 28, 1836 Jessie James Roberts Alabama – private 157 Depot Brig. I've had a desire to visit it for quite some time, but I've never quite managed to do so. I don't know if you're aware of the listing for the Hurd-Grey cemetery at . I also don't know accurate it may be. I've spoken to Ms. George, owner of the land on which it's supposed to be situated, on two occasions about possibly paying a visit, but each time there was a reason why we had to delay (inaccessible on one occasion due to overgrowth that needed cutting, and on the other due to recent heavy rains). I have suspicions that one of my direct Gray ancestors may have owned the land at one time. Ms. George also tells me that the cemetery holds the graves of blacks, whites and Indians, and that there are numerous unmarked graves there. I have hopes of someday discovering the graves of my two direct Gray ancestors, my GGG Grandfather Jeremiah Gray and his father John Gray. Those listed living with her are: Fannie Durden (Age 22, AL) George W. Simmons (Age 30, AL) Susan Simmons (Age 21, AL) I know that Elizabeth (Beard) Durden was married to Benjamin Durden and that Susan is their daughter. Susan married George Washington Simmons 19 Aug 1869. I was hoping someone has more information on the family of this George Washington Simmons. Such as who were his parents? George W. Simmoins died in 1906 and is buried in Oak HIll Cemetery in Autauga County, AL. His brother, Andrew J. Simmons, is also buried near him in Oak Hill, as is Susan (Durden) Simmons. George and Susan Simmons' son, Samuel B. Simmons, born 1876 and died 1924 is also buried there. --------- I would also like to know about Martha (Simmons) Golding who married Robert Golding. In the 1880 Autauga, Prattville, Alabama Census there is listed: Robert Golding Male - 32 - Work in Cotton Mill - Alabama Martha - Female - Wife - Keep House - Alabama Bertha - Female- Daughter - Alabama Maude - 1 - Daughter - Alabama A.J. 3. Hello Steve! So glad to hear from you! I too, have collected much data - mainly from other distant relatives I have met online - researching the same families. Once we "prove" our connections - we have all pretty much stayed in touch - especially when we find something new! I have been emailing a lady who is a "Gray" descendant - she is the one who has agreed that my Mary G - is most likely a Gray. We have been exchanging info for a couple of weeks now. Her name is Brenda Felder and her email has "granny" something in it. So look for it! Is it OK if I send her your email address? Fascinating about the Hurd-Grey Cemetery! I have a statement that another Taylor ancestor received from a landowner of the Hurd-Grey Cemetery who also said that there were mostly indians and blacks there - but she did say that John Taylor and Amelia Taylor were definately buried there and that Amelia was Mr. Grey's daughter. She would be my GGG Grandmother. There is many Taylors who believe Amelia is a Stafford - but they are NOT in my direct Taylor lline - and we have a few things that really point to her being a Gray/Grey. I am at work now, but am off tomorrow and will send you the things I have and put you in touch with Brenda also! Then, maybe we can all three piece this together! Have a good day! 3. Maybe - to some more distant Taylor relatives. My direct line goes from North Carolina, Jones County, GA, to Talladega, Autaugua & Coosa County areas - mainly Talladega County. Then on to Texas by 1870. It seems in my research - of more distant relatives that I have seen some reference to Coffee County. If you need more info - it would be easier if I had some specific names and dates - then I could search my data more easily. thanks! Going South on I-65, take the first Prattville exit at US Hwy 31. Turn left (north) on to Hwy 31. Go about 3 or 4 miles to the traffic light at the Hwy 31 & County Road 40 intersection. There will be a BP station on the left. Turn left (west) onto Autauga County Road 40. This will take you back over I-65. Continue on Co.Rd. 40 to Bridge Creek Rd., which will be on your left, maybe 3 miles. Turn left (south) on Bridge Creek Road. Continue about 2 miles to Lakeview drive which will be on your left. This will be a hard left back in the northeast direction. Continue on Lakeview Drive until you reach the Bridge Creek Lake. An alternate route would be to turn right (south) onto Hwy 31 from I-65. Continue on Hwy 31 south about 1 mile to County Rd. 85 (Large Pottery Business on the right) Turn right (west) onto Co. Rd. 85. Continue on Co. Rd. 85 for about 1 mile to Co. Rd 82. Turn right (northwest) onto Co. Rd. 82. Continue on County Road 82 for about 2-3 miles to Lakeview Drive. Turn right (northeast) on Lakeview Drive and Continue to Bridge Creek Lake. Do a MapQuest search for 1790 Lakeview Drive Prattville, Alabama.
