    1. [ALAUTAUG] for all who have love ones from my mother
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.autauga/12744/mb.ashx Message Board Post: "The Man I Called My Brother" My brother was a good man. He could make anyone laugh with his laugh, he had beautiful blue eyes you could sink into. He always had a good story or a joke to tell you, and even if you'd heard it over and over he'd always tell it like you'd never heard it at all. He had never seen an enemy. He was a brother, a son, an uncle, a grandson, a nephew. Most of all, he was someone who couldn't be copied, one of a kind. He was my brother. My brother lived in residential homes for more than twenty years of his life. In August 2006, he died at the age of 46 from what we were told was a heart attack. As with the loss of any loved one, the loss of my brother was hard to bear. On January 3, 2007, my family and I once again had to mourn the loss of my brother, and ask why we must go through the mourning once again. On that day, we found out that my brother's cause of death was not from a heart attack as we were previously informed. My brother died from the ingestion of a household cleanser. No longer was this a health issue concerning his death, it was a case of neglect on behalf of the residential home he lived in. One of my brother's passions were his liquids and drinks. If he saw you with a soda, some kool aid, or a glass of tea then he needed one too. Today we have so many types of cleansers that are colored and made to smell good, anyone could mistake it for a colored drink. Residential homes like the one my brother lived in, as well as other shelters, nursing homes, and institutions are required by law to keep such chemicals and cleansers under lock and key. They are never to be left out on cleaning carts or other open surfaces where they can be reached and mistakenly ingested. These are harmful chemicals, with many other problems that can be caused by this neglect, to include the effects of cleansers in contact with one's skin or eyes. I am sending this message to bring awareness to the neglect our society is treating these harmful chemicals with. Please, if you have family in any of the above facilities, or even children in daycare and school facilities, make sure the chemicals are being kept out of reach of those they can harm. The results that these chemicals can have when ingested or otherwise can be devastating; in this case our loss was permanent. I cannot bring my brother back, but with your help we can avoid this from happening again. Please forward this message and spread the awareness to as many people as you can, as it may save a life. THANK YOU. THIS NEGLECT HAS TO !!!!!! STOP !!!!!!

    2. In response to your query concerning Zachariah Pope Gordon and Mary O. Montgomery Gordon. Zachariah Pope b. 1787 in Fairfield Co, SC (the son of Lewis and Jemima Jones Pope)and Arrena/Irene Hill (daughter of Thomas and Rebecca Rogers Hill) married 15 Aug 1813 in Jones County, GA. They had one child, Amanda Hill Pope (b. 1816 in Jones County ,GA and died in 1862 in Autauga County, AL). It is not known if Irene died in Jones County or after Zachariah moved to Autauga County. He remarried and had several children. He was a large plantation owner and helped with the development of Autauga County. His plantation was located in the bend of the Alabama River in Autauga County. Amanda Hill Pope married James Madison Gordon (b. ca 1817 in NC and d. 8 May 1861 in Autauga County) They had two children: Jane Irene Gordon and Zachariah Pope Gordon. Jane Irene first married Andrew Jackson Merritt son of John and Martha Emily Durden of Autauga Co. They had one child: Nettie Gordon Merritt who was born ca 1861. Andrew "Jack" Merritt died 14 May 1862 in Camp Butler, Illinois. Irene Gordon Merritt then married William Montgomery on 16 Dec 1863 in Autauga County, AL. They had eight children. Zachariah Pope Gordon was b. 7 Oct 1844 in Autauga Co, AL. He died 3 Sept 1911 and is buried in the Oakhill Cemetery in Prattville, AL. He married Mary O. Montgomery who was the daughter of William and Anne Burrows (daughter of Alvin and Aurilla Toms Burrows of Winfield, NY). They had four children including Minnie A; Algernon Pope; Montgomery; and Annie Iola. The O. in Mary O. Montgomery's name remains a mystery but it might have been Orrisaville as Mary's mother had a sister named Orrisaville who died fairlyyoung but after she married and had children. Algernon Pope Gordon was b. 30 Jan 1870 and d. 12 Jan 1951 at Montgomery, AL is buried in Memorial Cemetery. He was licensed as a railroad brakeman early on but throughout almost all his working life he ran a dairy farm in Montgomery, AL.(probably the Hope Hull you are talking about as it is beautiful cattle country right outside Montgomery) He and Adella Virginia Collins Gordon had 6 children. Hope this helps. If more detailed information is desired contact me at Fallonfox@aol.com By Kay Smith Gibbs, a descendant of Thomas and Rebecca Hill and William Montgomery. Of importance are the court records of: Thomas and Rebecca Hill; James and Amanda Hill Pope Gordon; William and Irene Montgomery. I am presently in contact with members of the Burrows family in hopes that more can be found about this family. The Toms family is well documented through Rev War Pension records. The ancestry of James Madison Gordon remains unknown by this researcher. The Pope family can be reviewed in the Hills of Georgia Vol I and II. ________________________________________________________________________ Check out the new AOL. 3. Oakwood is the main cemetery in downtown Montgomery. It's a huge old cemetery. Hank Williams is buried there. There could be an Oak Hill Cemetery in Hope Hull, but I am not that familiar with Montgomery cemeteries. I did not see one listed at the genweb site for Montgomery. Kathryn Neu wrote: > Diane,I am now looking for a grave in Hope Hull Alabama of Zachary Pope Gordon. Is Oak Hill Cemetary of Montgomery County in Hope Hull. The web address is http://www.rootsweb.com/~alautaug/ The Autauga Genealogical Society has surveyed Oak Hill Cemetery and it will be included in an upcoming cemetery book for the eastern portion of the county. The book is currently being typeset. Hopefully it will be printed early next year. 3. I know the Oak Hill Cemetery in Montgomery has a Sexton on staff at the office across from the police department. It is a large cemetery, they have records, but I've found burial sites to be off by as much as 200-300 feet from where they are recorded (in completely different sections.) Always check to see if there is a Cemetery office or nearby church that administers the records for a cemetery. Oak Hill in Prattville is between Wetumpka Street and Main Street to the west of the railroad tracks (you can't access it from Main Street, I believe the south entrance is from 3rd Street, one street north of Main.) I haven't done research at this cemetery before, but if someone needs research or pictures, I'd be glad to help. -David On 12/19/06, Melissa Parker <mbparker@charter.net> wrote: > > I know they are buried there, but don't have a plat map. 3. Oak Hill Cemetery is on Wetumpka Street in Prattville. It is the biggest one in Prattville. Wetumpka Street is off US 31 to the West. It is on the left past the railroad tracks. You may find listings of the cemetery by going via internet to Algenweb and then Autauga County. I hope this helps. ----- Original Message ----- From: Melissa Parker To: Delilah ; alautaug@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, December 19, 2006 2:12 PM Subject: Re: [ALAUTAUG] Oak Hill Cemetery, Prattville No, Oak Hill is not on line because some of my husband's relatives are buried there.
