I can't find a connection to your Deaux family and my Deaux family yet. I am sure there is connection somewhere down the line. I can only trace my Deaux family back to my greatgreatfather, Joseph Deaux and 2 greatgrandfather, Augustus Deaux. Augustus was born in Missouri, according to FamilySearch, in 1815. Joseph Deaux was born in Tennessee in 1855. I think, but have not proved, that Augustus Deaux's father and mother may have been Jean Baptiste Deau and Angelique Brugiere. Jean Baptiste Deau is said to be from Canada. Angelique from Missouri. This Deaux family is my BRICK WALL. I would love to talk, hope we can connect our families. Hi Kristi............ It's wonderful that you have an index and offer to do look ups. Thank you in advance. While I have searched many different indexes, you never know when you'll strike gold. With that in mind, would you check your index for an "I.C.Morgan". His name was Isaac, however he almost invariably went by "I.C.". There is a J.C. Morgan that comes into play in the mid-1800's and I have come to believe that this is more likely a transcription error that has been perpetuated, as the handwriting of the day truely makes it just about impossible (unless the name is something like John), to distinquish between an "I" and a "J". So I believe that J.C.Morgan and I.C. Morgan, are the same person. In my research, J.C. Morgan suddenly appears as the head of family, at the same address previously identified in the census as being owned by I.C.Morgan. I believe, but I'm not certain, that Isaac's middle name was Cecile. He owned a lot of land in Autauga. That land is still today either entirely a ranch, or part of a ranch. Some of the land looks like maybe the state might even own it. And I don't know if the land even extends to what appears to be a power plant. Isaac was the son of Elizabeth Stewart Morgan. He was born in 1810. His mother, Elizabeth, died in 1856. She is buried in the Stewart-Morgan Cemetery located on that land in Autauga. This past fall I tried, and failed, to find that cemetery. I don't know if Isaac is buried there. One would certainly have every reason in the world to believe that he is. But I don't know. And I may never find out. This past fall, I was able to obtain, thanks to Caroline who is the president of the Autauga Gen.Soc., copies of a number of legal documents pertaining to Isaac. But I'm always on the lookout for more. Thank you, Diane gc-gateway@rootsweb.com wrote: >This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > >Author: Kristi_Moffitt >Surnames: >Classification: queries > >Message Board URL: > >http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.autauga/12759/mb.ashx > >Message Board Post: > >I have the Index to Alabama Wills 1808 - 1870 > >I am willing to do lookups. > >Please note this index does not give specific dates, but it does tell the will book, page number, and the dates covered by the will book where the document is found. >From another mail list. I haven't tried this but I do subscribe to Ancestry.com and was not aware of the following: Caroline H. The best kept secret on ancestry.com is found by going to the 'Search' tab, then accessing the 'Card Catalog'... At 'Database Title', type one word, such as Maryland. Every book that they have scanned that has the word Maryland in the title will show up. I did this for the word Baltimore and was presented with 46 books that they have scanned and on their database!!! They call these 'online databases', when in fact they really are books that have been scanned and put onto their database. Remember to put just the one word on the database title, then hit the 'Search' button. Don't put in any of the keywords or other options. It will limit the results that you'll get. It's the best kept secret in genealogy! Also, Ancestry.com is kind enough to donate full blown access to all public libraries and FHL's in your local area. My irritations with their company, and aggressive marketing dissolved when I learned that they actually donate this to these public facilities vs. those places paying for access to these resources. I have a new respect for a company that is so generous to do so. Needless to say, I don't make use of that free access and gladly pay now for full access to ancestry.com... I'm happy to pay for their hard work. I know that my annual fee (which in my mind is quite a deal in consideration of the records you get access to) is helping pay for the company to be able to afford to donate their full blown resources to the public libraries and FHL's... It's quite kind of them and I'm happy to pay to have it in my home at a very nominal fee. It's a lifesaver for me now. I know that my annual fee is helping others have access to it when they otherwise wouldn't be able to afford it, and now they can get access to it because of the generosity of a corporation. Seldom done in corporate America today!

To reply to the now voluminous Durden/Pickett posts - Keep coming! I think that perhaps you have not met Golsons because many of them moved out to Utah. They were Mormons. James Black, a descendant of that clan, was a recorder for the Mormon Libaries and went all over the world copying records. He wrote the Golson Genealogy which may be seen at a Mormon Library in your area. (Will take a while for copy to arrive in your area library) It contains a lot of information about many connecting families in Autauga Co. I believe Picketts are mentioned. I have a copy of the diaries of Martin F. Stoudenmire of Autauga Co.(unindexed) He was a Mormon and speaks of the Golsons in the religion and meetings in Mormon homes. Mentions names of many other Autauga Co. Mormons. He also speaks of the migration of the Golsons to Utah. Until I read these diaries, I was unaware of the Mormon presence in Autauga Co. Hope this helps.
