    1. [ALAUTAUG-L] Hall-Zeigler-Jones Family Cemetery
    2. David & list, My husband Larry & I drove from Wyoming to Autauga Co last March, and with the help of local genealogist Mack Clark, cleaned and weeded the cemetery. The guys even rebuilt the crypt of Nicholas Zeigler. I wrote an article for the Autauga Co Genealogical Society Newsletter which appeared a few months ago. I also made a very detailed survey of the cemetery although 2 earlier surveys had been done. This survey will appear in a coming issue of the newsletter. I believe there are probably more stones there that are still covered over. There is a good chance we will be back early in 2003 to continue our work. We will welcome any help when we get there. We stayed a week before and cleared about 3/4ths of it except for trees and cleared paths to the rest of the stones in the weedy areas. A huge cedar tree had fallen and wiped out several stones. Others were broken by smaller trees. But somebody still cares about this cemetery. She just lives too far to tend it on a regular basis. Honey

He was in the Civil War and was killied at Drewry's Bluff, VA. I also know many could not afford to bring the remains back for burial. Thanks, Inez Carney

    1. [ALAUTAUG-L] More old graves in Autauga Co., Ala...........!
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/pR.2ADE/827 Message Board Post: Hello, Today, in my quest to find the graves of William and Lewis Rawlinson, immigrants to Autauga Co from S.C. back in 1820s, I went to a small graveyard marked "Confederate Veteran's Cemetery" on the Autauga Co., Al. map. It is on Co. Rd. 45 more or less across from Shiloh Church.Going north towards Selma about a mile or so past Autaugaville turn right on Co. Rd. 45. In this cemetery were several Halls, Jones, Wittlesworths, Zeiglers, etc.. Some of these graves were very old. One of the Halls for example was dated 1808. I don't know why it is referred to as a Confederate Veteran's cemetery. Because only one of the graves were marked as a C.S. Soldier, I think it was Samual Hall. He was a Pvt. in Co. "G", 6th Alabama Infantry Regt., C.S.A.. His company was the "Autauga Rifles". This was once a pretty little family cemetery, with an ornate wrought iron fence around it, with some nice looking tombstones, etc.. Now it is all over grown with trees, vines, briars, cacti, a! nd there is even a large tree or two that has fallen onto it, knocking over a tombstone or two and the fence in places. For the life of me I don't understand why or how a family, families, or descendents could let their old family gravyards go to crap like that! A couple of the graves were the type that are upraised sort of like what they have in Louisiana. A couple were semi collapsed. There were some bones there too, either some animals or small human bones. A couple of the people in this cemetery were doctors too. From the looks of the fence, the stones, etc, they must have been an infuential family/families at one time, perhaps "Landed Gentry". I just thought I would post this in case a descendant might be interested in checking it our or even cleaning the place up. Take care, David Middleton Edelen II

    3. Irma Hi, That was so kind of you to go to all that trouble looking for William A!! I will follow through on the lead you gave me, and perhaps I can find out what happened to Julia Marie and William A. Julia Marie had twins named after her (at least twins in Autauga were named Julia and Marie), and I had pictures of them with first names only. Imagine my surprise when emailing back and forth to people in the area that the twins were part of the SMITH and PRATT families. I was able to identify by sending scanned photos about a dozen of my pictures. Wish the other pictures could be identified. I'm writing names on the backs of all of my pictures for what it is worth. Thanks again-I really appreciate it-when these people just seem to up and disappear, I get worried. I tried sending you an email but it was returned. I guess I did something wrong. Joan
