I have transcribed death and marriage notices from many of the old Autauga County newspapers. However, I do not have any for 1924. The transcriptions for years 1853-1910 have been published. I have shared some of the other years for publication in the Autauga Genealogical Society Quarterly. The transcriptions for years 1929, 1935 and 1939 of the Prattville Progress have been published in the AGS quarterlies recently. Larry E. Caver, Jr.
The Prattville Progress is on microfilm at the Alabama State Archives and at the Prattville Library. It can be borrowed through inter-library loan from the AL Archives. Larry E. Caver, Jr.
I am not a Wyatt descendant, but I have found a copy of a booklet by Leonardo Andrea that was done June 15, 1952 for the 46th Wyatt Reunion. I believe that this information might connect to William Conquest Wyatt born 1796 in SC died 1852 in Alabama. He married Miriam Wright born 1797 in SC died 1850 in Alabama. They are buried at Chestnut Creek Baptist Church, Chilton County, AL. If you are a Wyatt descendant, get in touch with me off line. A. D. Smith Newberry, SC

And a visit to the web site of the Alabama Dept of Archives and History shows that they have on microfilm several Autauga County newspapers: * Autauga Mercury (Autaugaville), 1853 October 5 * Prattville Progress (Prattville), 1886 October 29 - 1996 December 28 Missing issues: 1985 January 1, 3; 1994 July - September * Autauga Citizen (Autaugaville), 1853 February 3 - 1882 July 27 * The Southern Signal (Prattville), 1877 October 25 - 1886 October 22 * Southern Statesman (Prattville), 1854 December 20 -- 1861 August 31 It seems likely that one of these could have obituaries. In addition, depending on location, it could be listed in a Montgomery paper, and those are probably at the archives or at a Montgomery library. Depending on your location, you could visit the Archives (it's right here in Montgomery, where I live) or perhaps look into interlibrary loan. For information, visit <http://www.archives.state.al.us/newsp/newsp.html> and find the Autauga link with the info above and links for info on interlibrary loan. = Steve =

I'm sure this is repetitious, but my hard drive crashed last month and I have no saved emails to refer to and all my internet links are gone too. I can't find what I am looking for in the archives, so I am asking again. I am looking for the grave of Samuel Fleming, Rev. War soldier, b. 1760 Ireland, d. 22 Feb 1844 and 'was buried by the side of his first wife in the family graveyard at Kingston' according to the Wetumpka Argus of 6 Mar 1844. And his son John Fleming, b. circa 1794 GA, d. bt. 1850 and 1855 at 'Independence in Autauga Co.' I am coming to Alabama, finally, the first week in March and intend to try to find these graves. I don't have much time to search out where the family homestead in Kingston might be before coming, but if someone could answer a couple of questions, my search might be more hopeful. First, does anyone know where Samuel Fleming or his son are buried? <g> Second, how big is Kingston, or was it in 1844? Is there a map of any sort of Kingston in 1844 that might have the names of the people living on different parts? Is Kingston still a thriving metropolis, or is it now a historical spot? Would I find old land records in the Prattville courthouse or in the library? Also, is Independence still thriving, or is it a historical spot? Does anyone have a list of the cemeteries in/near Independence? Probably Baptist. And is there a map of Independence around 1850 showing the people living there? I'm going to the Autauga pages now to try to answer some of the more obvious questions, but I will appreciate any help I can get, and I again apologize for being repetitious. Thanks, Alice Campbell I do have a printout of how to get to Kingston Cemetery, but I have found out this is not where he is buried.
