My father was contacted years ago by some person who thought they might be descendants of our slave masters. He did not follow through, now we have nothing to go on. This is an important link to our history and should be more meaningful to all of us. This country has nothing to be ashamed of if our closures are met. Dave Butler Jr. Thanks for the best geneology site in the country and thanks for the hard work and dedication of the volunteers. God Bless

I have done alot of searching on my Seamon and cannot make a connection to the NY Seamons, although I think there is one. This would have been the descendants of Ed (Sonny) Seamon that were heirs. If you find any info, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I can not fully answer your question. I have wondered about this myself. There is a marker at the old Bishop Cemetery site with the names of the people you mentioned. The death of "Mrs. R.J. BISHOP" is mentioned in the Evergreen Baptist Church records (Autauga Co.) as follows: On December 5, 1924, the death angel came and carried to rest the dear mother, sister and friend, Mrs. R.J. BISHOP... Mrs. BISHOP was born in Columbia, SC in 1848. She joined Harmony Baptist Church in her early girlhood days and later united with Evergreen Baptist Church...

First marriage: Thomas Jefferson Taylor, Second marriage: Reuben Joshua Bishop. Also did Reuben Joshua survive Emma ? The following information indicates that he did, but one researcher says that she was the survivor. The Autauga Co. Cemetery listings say that Emma L. Bates Taylor Bishop {d. 1924} is buried in the Harmony Cemetery and that Reuben Joshua Bishop {d. 1928} is buried in the Bishop Cemetery with his parents, Edmond Bishop and Mary Wiggins Bishop. If the flood of 1886 wiped out the graves of the older Bishops, then how can Reuben Joshua be buried there in 1928? Is there another Bishop Cemetery? I would welcome more information about the flood. A kind friend has furnished a newspaper account of the marker that was placed in Milton, Ala.in May of 1982 concerning these older Bishops. Is there more infromation available about the flood? Your assistance wil! l be appreciated. Ann C. Davis
