    3. Chestnut Creek was in north Autauga Co. in 1850. That part of the county is now (since 1868) in Chilton County. I believe that Chestnut Creek was near Verbena. 1. [ALAUTAUG-L] Prattville Public Library
    2. As many of you know there are many genealogical resources available at the Autauga Heritage Center here in Prattville. However, there are also some items available at the Prattville Public Library. If you ever visit Prattville from out of town or out of state on the weekend, and find the courthouse and the Heritage Center closed, please drop by the Prattville Library which is open on Saturdays. The amount of materials at the library is not as great as at the Heritage Center, but we have been trying to place duplicate copies of books/materials at the library specifically related to Autauga County. I personally have donated copies of all my books to the Library for use by patrons. Some of my books are actually available for "check out". These materials are found in the "caged area" in the front corner of the library. Library staff are not available to help with research. If you have published any family history or other related history to AUTAUGA COUNTY and have an extra copy to donate to the library, let me know. The library will place these materials if we have the books "hardbound" which we can do. Larry E. Caver, Jr. P.O. Box 680052 Prattville, AL 36068

    1. [ALAUTAUG-L] Autauga News Items (1872)
    2. Below is another news column reprinted from the Citizen in the Montgomery Advertiser in 1872... Larry (Autauga County) Our Circuit Court adjourned last Saturday at noon, after having disposed of a heavy criminal docket... The case of Judge DENNIS was called up on Thursday, but was not tried, the defendant not putting in his appearance. His bond was forfeited. The indictment in the slander case was demurred too, and the trial was postponed until the next term of the court. A few days prior to the death of Capt. James M. HILL, our late Circuit Clerk, he tendered his resignation, which was accepted, and Mr. Will P. GOLSON was appointed to the office by Judge J.Q. SMITH... We have it, upon good authority, that a skating rink is soon to be opened in Prattville, at Roger's Hall, perhaps. We have not had a seasonable rain in this neighborhood for some two weeks. The gardens and young cotton and corn would be much benefited by a few good showers. -Citizen, May 2nd Source: Montgomery Daily Advertiser, May 8, 1872

McNEIL, W.C.T.; Mrs. J.H. GOLSON, R.S.; Mrs. William CAVER, L.S.; Mrs. T.A. DAVIS, W.V.T.; Mims HOWARD, Secretary; J.B. WILKINSON, F. Secretary; Robert KING, Treasurer; W.A. EDWARDS; Chaplain; T.A. DAVIS, Marshal; Albert J. PICKETT, Guard; Lewis HALL, Sentinel; William CAVER, Deputy Marshal. 1. [ALAUTAUG-L] Field Trip to Wallace State
    2. The Autauga Genealogical Society will be taking a field trip to Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Alabama on Friday, June 6- Saturday, June 7. The College normally is not normally open on Saturdays but is making a special effort to open on June 7 for our visit and any other patron wanting to visit that day. We will probably leave early on Friday morning to go ahead and get to Hanceville to do a few hours of research that afternoon. If anyone is interested in going with us on this trip, please let me know. We will be spending Friday night there in Cullman and returning Saturday evening. We will be "car pooling". We will need some people to volunteer to drive their vehicles. I will drive my vehicle and will have space for a couple of riders. The arrangements for the trip will be very casual. We do not have any "pre-arranged" hotel accomodations/rates, but plan to stay at the Comfort Inn. If you would like to go, you would need to contact the hotel direct for your own hotel arrangements. The rates are normally $60 or less per night. The cost will vary depending on what discounts you have (AAA, senior citizens, etc.) and people can "double up" and share a room too to defray costs. The address is: Comfort Inn, 5917 Hwy 157 N.W., Cullman, AL 35058, ph. 256-734-1240 We hope you can join us for this special event. Wallace State has microfilm of the actual death certificates up to 1975 for Alabama. This is a very special opportunity to do some death certificate research on your Alabama ancestors. Larry E. Caver, Jr.
