When each of the two previous history books were being compiled in this Division, instructions were issued regarding word limit and other details.  Such would definitely be helpful for us this time, but I've not send anything like this.  Lynda Lowery 2010-2012 Division President2006-2008 Division Registrar2004-2006 Division Corresponding Secretary

    1. [ALAUDC] UDC LETITIA ROSS DISTRICT MEETING/MONUMENT RE-DEDICATION
    2. Faye Gaston
    3. With all the bad news of removing Confederate monuments there is good news in the Letitia Ross District. Jean Martin, president of the UDC Robert E. Lee 192 chapter in Opelika, wanted to have the re-dedication of the Confederate soldier monument in downtown Opelika following the Letitia Ross District meeting, and requested that UDC Alabama Division Suzanna Rawlings preside at the ceremony. So at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2019 the ceremony was conducted with the UDC Robert E. Lee 192 chapter and the SCV Robert E. Lee 16 Camp hosting this important event. The SCV camp had replaced the walkway around the monument, cleaned it and worked to secure financing. The First National flag and a wreath of Magnolia leaves were placed at the monument. The lower part that was covered was unveiled by a SCV member when the ceremony concluded. Singing included a violin and bag pipes.Greetings were from Alabama Division SCV Commander and Alabama Division UDC President, Suzanna Rawlings. Members of the UDC Robert E. Lee 192 chapter were on the program: Jean Martin (chapter president) gave the welcome, Shelby Ward gave the prayer and Sandra Wilson presented a history of the monument. Inscribed on one side of the monuments was: "Erected December 7, 1910 by Robert E. Lee Chapter UDC Opelika." The UDC Robert E. Lee 192 chapter of Opelika was the host for the Letitia Ross District meeting at the Saugahatchee Country Club in Opelika, assisted by the UDC Russell County 2114 of Phenix City. The theme of the meeting was "Southern Belles and Mighty Monuments", suggested by Lucy McGuffey, President of the Phenix City chapter. Crystal bells were in the table decorations as reminders that "We are Southern belles, insuring our Confederate ancestors are not forgotten via meetings, monuments and memories." Faye Gaston, District Director, presided at the meeting. She thanked the out-going Letitia Ross District Director Pat Killian and Mobile Bay District Director Sandie Ziglar for guidelines for the meeting. She thanked the presidents of the two UDC chapters hosting the meeting and their members for taking care of many details of the meeting. Faye Gaston presented Linda Edwards (Ex-Division President and Vice-President General) and Suzanna Rawlings (Alabama Division President) with a commemorative magazine on the movie, "Gone With the Wind". Linda was the featured speaker and emphasized Confederate monuments and Suzanna shared information on UDC Division matters. Faye Gaston presented handouts of 30 pages each of UDC information from UDC Division officers and members from computer to the 8 chapter presidents present. She presented all in attendance a brochure on Confederate Memorial Park in Marbury, Alabama and a printed agenda. Speaking on the program were 4 Letitia Ross District chapter presidents, 2 Division committee chairmen, 5 Division officers, 2 Ex-division Presidents and the Vice-President General. (Other officers present from other chapters were 4 more presidents and one more District Director.) District Chaplain, Mary Pitts, conducted the Memorial Service, featuring a silver tea service. She led the pledges to the flags and songs in the UDC ritual and offered prayers. Door prizes were awarded. Purchases/donations were made for UDC projects. Lunch was a buffet. Seated at the head table were (left to right) Jessica Maddox, Acting District Secretary; Linda Edwards, Vice-President General; Faye Gaston, Director of Letitia Ross District; Suzanna Rawlings, Alabama Division President; Jean Martin, President of Robert E. Lee 192 host chapter; and Mary Pitts, Letitia Ross District Chaplain.

    1. [ALAUDC] FW: UDC removes Confederate Flag
    2. Patricia S. Godwin
    3. Yet another Confederate sent this communique to me from South Florida…this event is obviously going “viral”….boy is the UDC making enemies! These women in GA are NOT worthy of the gray blood running in their veins! This smells of DUCK N’ RUN TRAMMELL…the PG with NO manners! She doesn’t know what RSVP means and NEVER issued a condemnation of the Charleston shooting and never extended condolences from the UDC to the families of those nine people killed. But she did issue a gag order on all the divisions! Pat Godwin on behalf of Pat Godwin NOT Selma chapter 53 Ladies and Gentlemen, what you are about to read is the truth of the matter. On April 30th 2019, Georgia Monument Guard Jonathan Langford reported on the Confederate section in the Rest Haven City Cemetery in Forsyth Georgia. His report included that the flagpole was bare of rigging and flag. After brief discussion on the Facebook page, it was decided that myself and Keith Hines would go to the cemetery the same day and devise a plan to re-rig and raise an Army of Tennessee Battleflag on the pole. Five days later, Sunday May 5th, myself, Keith Hines, and Michael Swails returned to Rest Haven and restored what is considered by many to be a memorial to our Confederate Dead. The flag was again flying over our heroes. The flag flew for a total of 19 days till May 24th, and it was reported that someone had cut the steel cable we put in place to prevent vandalism and removed the flag. I had Keith Hines make a report with the Forsyth Sheriff’s Department concerning the vandalism. The very next day, May 25th, Keith Hines once again rerigged and was able to raise the flag over our Heroes. Four days later, May 29, once again Georgia Monument Guard Jonathan Langford sent me a picture of the entire flagpole missing from the cemetery. I immediately made contact with Keith Hines and asked him to file a second report with the Sheriff’s Department. I personally called the City of Forsyth to make sure they were not the culprits and vandals removing the flag and then the pole. I spoke with City Manager Janice Hall who was very helpful and put me in direct contact with Sheriff Brad Freeman. His Captain, Ben Cook then took over the case and promised he would get down to the bottom of the vandalism and theft. On Tuesday June 4th I received email correspondence from Captain Cook asking if we planned to reinstall the flagpole. This gave me the idea to begin a fundraiser for the price of the new pole which was $700. Beginning at 11:30am and ending at 3:30pm, we raised $810 that was going to pay for the new pole. Captain Ben Cook stated during our conversation that the Sheriff’s Department would place a camera to monitor activity in and around the Confederate Section of Rest Haven. At 4:30pm the same day, Tuesday June 4th, I received a call from Capt. Cook stating he had solved “our flagpole caper”. In the conversation with Capt. Cook he stated that the flagpole was removed by the property owners. He then informed me that the Confederate section of Rest Haven Cemetery in the City of Forsyth had been deeded to the local Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Cabaniss Chapter 415. Needless to say, I was very disheartened in hearing this news. All we have done and continue to do in the SCV and the Georgia Monument Guards was not only stolen and removed by individuals who should be on our side, my attempt at a resolution with the Chapter President fell on deaf ears. It is a fact that not only did the Cabaniss Chapter 415 United Daughters of the Confederacy cut down and remove the first Army of Tennessee Battleflag we raised, the flag of their Ancestors, but also removed the entire flagpole when we replaced it a second time. There is no disputing these facts. With that being said, if anyone would like a refund of their donation, simply let me know and I will make sure you get what you’ve donated. However, the new plan for the pole I purchased with your donations for Forsyth, will now be donated to the 4th Brigade SCV to be installed at the Jefferson Davis Campsite in Eastman Georgia. If you are still willing to allow your donation to raise a new pole and flag in an area where it is wanted and not looked at as an object of shame, then I once again thank you for your generous gift. I have asked that the original workmen on the flag and pole in Forsyth be allowed to give their sweat and hard work in making this happen in Eastman. I will post pictures when the time comes. This ladies and gentlemen is the truth of the matter. I will not drag any names through the mud or name call. It is not my duty. I will simply let this matter be addressed in public opinion. Each of you who gave so generously and raised our goal in under four hours have my utmost appreciation and gratitude. It is individuals such as yourself that make what we do so important and gratifying. All we have done and continue to do in the SCV and the Georgia Monument Guards was not only stolen and*** removed by individuals who should be on our side, my attempt at a resolution with the Chapter President fell on deaf ears. <>>>>It is a fact that not only did the Cabaniss Chapter 415 United Daughters of the Confederacy cut down and remove the first Army of Tennessee Battleflag we raised, the flag of their Ancestors, but also removed the entire flagpole when we replaced it a second time. 2. Pat Killian
    3.  I am taking orders for the metal magnetic name tags.  The cost is $12.00.  I will need you to tell me the way you wantyour name shown. The simplest way is best, because the font gets smaller for along name ie: I use Pat Killian instead of Patricia Killian. The deadline forthe payment is July 17. Name tags will be brought to the Division convention. Make your check payable to Maj. Gen. Patrick R.Cleburne Chapter. Please email me privately as pkcb113@bellsouth.net. (113 is numbers----- not lower case L) I will take several names from a chapter.  Thanks Pat KillianMaj. Gen. Patrick R. Cleburne, Chapter UDC
