This 'rant' is going to be a little long, so if you don't want to read it just hit 'delete' & skip it if you'd rather be doing something more exciting. <Ha-Ha> - Martha 667 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you've got kids (grands, etc.) in P.Schools (like I do) in AL (or other states), you know that the only REAL exposure they get to AL, or American history in general, is in the 4th or 5th grades, as we in UDC know. Today no history courses are even required in H.S., only 'social studies', which are mostly the indoctrination techniques of Marxist socialism. The terms honor, valor, courage used to mean something when I was in school 50 yr. ago; but that was before the 1960's when God, virtue & patriotism were thrown out of classrooms like so much dirty bath water. Many of you who are younger than 50 can ID w/ some semblance of those virtues being taught to you. It's all very APPALLING & SHOCKING to me as a former teacher, professor and school psychometrist for almost 30 years, so I know that it is to you all as well. The UDC used to be able to go freely into P.Schools in AL, and other states - with our coloring contests, 'moments in history', re-enactments, etc. Now, private & church schools are the only 'havens' where the truths of American History -inc. the story of BOTH sides of the WBTS- or any other important events from Colonial times to our country's inception by the FF until bf/ WW2 - are even allowed to be taught. I know that I'm 'preaching to the choir', but I just want to say that the 'good ole days' of 50 yr. ago weren't so bad after all. If there were 'scandals' re: educational institutions, it used to be reserved for the shock that someone here, or there, had been caught cheating on school entrance tests (who even knew how then?), or an athlete was allowed to play when he (girls didn't get scholarships of any kind then) wasn't qualified. School was mostly for education and other subjects -social & athletic- were just 'extra-curricular' to help a student become 'more rounded' in life. In general, no one's parents condoned, much less supported this sort of thing. I'm pretty sure that all of our parents had the character to teach their children that this sort of thing was wrong, and never to be allowed. Punishment was swift and sure when such 'goings on' were brought out into the open. Maybe some who were 'Richie Rich' got into college bc/ daddy had donated a new gym or football field to their 'alma mater', but that was nothing like the 'trend' toward such illegal bribery schemes involving hundreds of thousands of $$$ in an effort to 'cheat' their kid into a school or some athletic program of choice. This is wrong, wrong, wrong and IMO every kid who received such illegal & preferential treatment (even those who say they didn't know or are even doing well in school) should be booted out of the school their parents so nefariously got them into...or cough up the tuition themselves to pay their 'honest, fair share' to make up for it & to stay there. I for one am going to make sure that my grands hear from me that NONE of this sort of behavior is ever right, in case it were to somehow come from the adults who are supposed to be the 'positive role models' they should expect to have at any stage of life.
I appreciate aspects of all cultures but sometimes the different cultures just don’t mix well due to the differences. A lot of it is socio-economic as well and throwing $ at education doesn’t help, especially since government decided discipline was bad and feelings mattered more than true teaching and morality in the schoolhouses. Parents not being involved in their children's’ lives or education but then screaming their kids aren’t learning when the staff spends most of the day handling behavior problems and extracurricular crap will not be fixed by giving the education budget more $. Education though, is key, and apparently students whether black, white, yellow, red, or brown are not getting much. Wikipedia and googling have replaced logical thought and the ability to actually research the truth. > On Mar 12, 2019, at 5:39 PM, Patricia S.
