Good morning ladies, The new grave markers vendor was approved!! They are still working to get the new forms up on the General website but that should happen very soon. There are a few new size options for member markers. I cannot put an attachment on here but I did put it on our private facebook page. If you need to order immediately, you can use the old form until the new one is available but scratch out Newman Bros. and make your check out to Classic Bronze Resources. To order, send two copies of the form, the cemetery placement authorization form, and your check, to the General Grave Markers Chair. As soon as the updated forms are on General’s website I will ask that they be added to our Division webpage. Hope everyone has a good week, Lori Adams Division Chair Grave Markers
I would love to know about some of your presentations. We go in uniform and period dress as well. At the end of the program we let them ask questions, they seem like they'll never end. Cindy: I'm glad you were able to do that one. I think you made the right decision to talk with the principal. We are blessed in that we have St. Clair Camp 308 SCV to go to the schools with us. They go in uniform and we go in period dress. The camp chaplain also goes and tells what the chaplain responsibilities were in the war. Be more that happy to share with anyone how we present our program when we present the awards. I sat down with the principal of the school and went over everything with him. Provided the contest to 150 students and instructions for the teachers. He put it on the calendar, so I had a wonderful friend do the program while I judged the entries. I'm sad to say my granddaughter and I put together 150 goody bags for the students, plus monetary awards and certificates. We had only 19 entries to choose from. Thelma, I know what you mean. I was so excited to finally give the 4th grade coloring contest at my granddaughter's school. First grandchild to reach that age. Most of the teachers didnt even tell the students or offered it to them. They were very disappointed and so was I. Thankfully we in the Ashville Chapter in St. Clair County are still allowed in the schools and give programs with the awards for the coloring contest. We have the support of the St. Clair County Board of Education, the County Commission and the City Council of Ashville. We actually speak to approximately 1200 students plus teacher. We have 2 private schools on our program. We also have an intermediate school (5th and 6th grade) which we give a program to though not the coloring contest. Today no history courses are even required in H.S., only 'social studies', which are mostly the indoctrination techniques of Marxist socialism. > > The terms honor, valor, courage used to mean something when I was in school 50 yr. ago; but that was before the 1960's when God, virtue & patriotism were thrown out of classrooms like so much dirty bath water. Many of you who are younger than 50 can ID w/ some semblance of those virtues being taught to you. It's all very APPALLING & SHOCKING to me as a former teacher, professor and school psychometrist for almost 30 years, so I know that it is to you all as well. > > The UDC used to be able to go freely into P.Schools in AL, and other states - with our coloring contests, 'moments in history', re-enactments, etc. Now, private & church schools are the only 'havens' where the truths of American History -inc. the story of BOTH sides of the WBTS- or any other important events from Colonial times to our country's inception by the FF until bf/ WW2 - are even allowed to be taught. > > I know that I'm 'preaching to the choir', but I just want to say that the 'good ole days' of 50 yr. ago weren't so bad after all. If there were 'scandals' re: educational institutions, it used to be reserved for the shock that someone here, or there, had been caught cheating on school entrance tests (who even knew how then?), or an athlete was allowed to play when he (girls didn't get scholarships of any kind then) wasn't qualified. School was mostly for education and other subjects -social & athletic- were just > 'extra-curricular' to help a student become 'more rounded' in life. > > In general, no one's parents condoned, much less supported this sort of thing. I'm pretty sure that all of our parents had the character to teach their children that this sort of thing was wrong, and never to be allowed. Punishment was swift and sure when such 'goings on' were brought out into the open. Maybe some who were 'Richie Rich' got into college bc/ daddy had donated a new gym or football field to their 'alma mater', but that was nothing like the 'trend' toward such illegal bribery schemes involving hundreds of thousands of $$$ in an effort to 'cheat' their kid into a school or some athletic program of choice. This is wrong, wrong, wrong and IMO every kid who received such illegal & preferential treatment (even those who say they didn't know or are even doing well in school) should be booted out of the school their parents so nefariously got them into...or cough up the tuition themselves to pay their 'honest, fair share' to make up for it & to stay there. > > I for one am going to make sure that my grands hear from me that NONE of this sort of behavior is ever right, in case it were to somehow come from the adults who are supposed to be the 'positive role models' they should expect to have at any stage of life. > > _______________________________________________ > This is a private e-mail list for members of the Ala.
