    3. Kim, Glad to hear from you, hope that things can be made do-able for you. BY posting Alsaka's newpapers, we of the lower 48 can possibley hunt for an ancestor whom ventured your way, many moons ago. As to weather, that's cold lady, brrrr! I'm sitting at 55f and the winds blowing strongly all night and half of me just made the East Coast...what a mess. Stay warm and in touch. ~hum.Linda~

    3. Kim, As long as the list is quiet, do you have access to any of the gold rush papers? Would you be willing to post some of the stories found in them? I often heard of stories in history books about the hardships that the gold rush men and women endured...I'd be interested in the prices of their material and food items..and of the horrible deaths of the horses and mules in the Klondike rush...I my hunts, I found the Border Police then, had very strict requirements before the humans could even enter Canada, let alone Alaska. Any idea of the biggest claim or the longest running mining works. I have been transcribing a 1852 newspaper about Trinity County and their mining activities and mining news, stamp mills and such like info. If your interested in seeing what happened here... <www.google.com/newpaperabbstracts/> I would imagine that the extreme cold would adversly affect how the Alaska miners did their work? TIA. ~hum.Linda~

    3. Not at home I don't. I haven't been venturing outside much because it's been very very cold (-1 F now @ 12 MN) here & my car heater isn't working. So I don't get to the library much. I'm trying to hook up with a retired mechanic to help. Kim.
