    1. [AL-ROLLCALL] George Caldwell family of Talladega, Alabama ca. 1830 - 1880
    2. Joyce M
    3. I am trying to locate additional information on George Caldwell (Colwell), b. about 1823 in Newberry, SC, married Margaret H. Johnson December 26, 1852 in Talladega, AL. Children: Eliza, J. A., John Lark, Richard C., Unknown (b. 1860 w no name listed) and James Robert Caldwell. George was not with the family when they moved to Arkansas about 1878 and Margaret was listed as widow. From handwritten letter to Bureau of Land Management, Margaret lists brother-in-law Joseph as nearest relative to vouch that George was born in Newberry, SC. Margaret says she was born in County Down, Ireland thus needed to prove citizenship for homestead patent. Joseph, b. about 1819 in SC, spouse Mary Johnson b. abt 1818 in Ireland, marriage in Talladega, AL Nov 3, 1842 and signed affidavit on behalf of Margaret that he and brother George were born in Newberry SC. There are other Caldwell/Colwell men living near them on the 1860 and 1870 census that could be relatives, but so far I've found nothing to link them with others, and no information on this family prior to 1860 Census. There are numerous George and Joseph Caldwell/Colwell references but with different family members and connections. Both families ended up in Montgomery County, AR by about 1878. Additionally, I do not have family connections for Mary Johnson or Margaret Johnson either. Would be very grateful to locate other researchers of these 2 families and any additional information. Thanks! 3. My great grandfather was James Wood "Jim" Thomas born 1872 and died in 1957. According to his Social Security Application, his parents were Marion Thomas and Elizabeth Reaves and he was born in Coosa County. I researched years ago and found the family of Samuel Thomas who moved from Coosa County between 1870 and 1880 to Calhoun County where James Wood grew up. There are multiple reasons why this family seems to be connected. According to family lore, his parents both died in a "flu epidemic" when he was about 2 yrs old (1874 ish) and he was raised by a set of grandparents (unidentified). I cannot confirm the parents of either Marion Thomas nor Elizabeth Reaves nor can I find a marriage record. There are both Thomas and Reaves families in both Coosa and Calhoun Counties. NOW, based on DNA matches from myself, my brother and a first cousin who is also a descendant of this line, we have mulitple matches to descendants of the same Samuel Thomas family though we cannot find HOW we are connected. Looking for those answers. 3. Wilson Ferguson married to (Mary) Elizabeth Wilson Ferguson, both born in the early 1830's, late 1820's children William Franklin b 1853 John ( I think I recall correctly) 1857 Eliza b 1860 I want info on Wilson Ferguson living in Talladega Co in 1860. He was in the civil war. Info on that would be appreciated. Also must have died in Civil war. 1870 census show family living in Coosa Co. without Wilson (Father) 1880 finds William Franklin F living in Calhoun Co. Arkansas I don't know where Mary Elizabeth and the other children are at that time. I need a marriage lookup for Eliza Ferguson ( SP uncertain) Did Mary Elizabeth Ferguson ever remarry? also, All of this family ties into the Wilson family decedents of Frederick and Absalom Wilson, being cousin and brother to Elizabeth Wilson, all moving together from Henry Co. Georgia. Ideas, info, and help would be appreciated. Absalom or Frederick, one of them was also a prisoner in the civil war. I don't know if Wilson was in their company or not. All three families were listed in three houses together on the 1860 census.

    1. [AL-ROLLCALL] SCRUSE and CRUSE of Alabama
    2. I am doing a worldwide one-name study on the surnames CRUSE and CRUWYS with variants which include CRUISE, CREWS, CREWES, CRUZE, SCRUSE, SCREWS, etc. As I live in England I have until now concentrated mainly on the English research. In one of the CRUSE lines originating in Urchfont, Wiltshire, England, in the 1600s I have one branch where the spelling of the surname changed to SCRUSE. It would appear that all SCRUSES of English descent are from this one branch. I have recently discovered that SCRUSE was the maiden name of Kathleen JACKSON, the mother of the singer Michael JACKSON. From what I have read her family were from Alabama. I know nothing about research in Alabama but wondered if anyone has studied any SCRUSE lines or knows anything of Kathleen JACKSON's ancestry. As part of my one-name study I am also running a DNA project. An English SCRUSE has just joined the project. I am hoping that it might be possible to locate a SCRUSE in America to take part in the project to see if the two lines match. Anyone with the surnames CRUSE, CRUISE, CREWS, CRUWYS or any of the other many variants is also most welcome to join, and I would be interested to hear from anyone researching these names. I have information on the English SCRUSE line on my blog: http://cruwys.blogspot.com/search/label/Scruse Further information about the DNA project can be found on my DNA website: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/CruwysDNA Further information about the one-name study can be found on my profile page on the Guild of One-Name Studies website: http://www.one-name.org/profiles/cruwys.html Debbie Kennett
