Can anyone give me any information about the poor farm in Mobile. I know it no longer exists. Were there any ariticles in the newspaper about it? Are there photos anywhere that I could copy? Dear Barbara: As I noted in another post, the old poor farm was located on land now occupied by the University of South Alabama Medical Center. I used to work for the Mobile Press Register and believe I remember reading in our old clippings file about the poor farm. Many of those clippings have now been transferred to the Archives of the City of Mobile. The director, Jay Higginbotham, can tell you if he has those files. You might also check with the University of South Alabama Photographic Archives. They may have both written and photographic records. Good luck!
