Dear Fellow Researchers: I am currently researching the 1920s Old Spanish Trail (OST) transcontinental highway between St. Augustine, FL, and San Diego, CA, that crossed Alabama on what is now old US 90. I am inquiring whether any of your historical societies or local archives may have information on this early private highway. Though headquartered in San Antonio, TX, the OST Association had its first meeting in Mobile in December of 1915, where the highway was conceived to revive the city with a lateral connection to the east and west. Like many other important towns along the OST, there was probably a great deal of highway boosterism occurring during this period, with articles in the newspapers proclaiming the anticipated benefits of the highway, and often accompanied by the production of handsome tourist brochures and maps and roadside markers. Any information on the Old Spanish Trail's historic and current presence in Mobile and Alabama will be appreciated. Thank you. John W. Hi Bud, You might be interested in the "Families of the Pioneer Valley" CD which contains: "Springfield Families" by Thomas B. Warren. "Pynchon's Court Records 1638-1696". "Pynchon's Births, Marriages and Deaths 1638-1696". all of which were compiled from the record books he and his son kept for a number of years. I spoke to one of the people from Regional http://www.RegionalPublications.com and he informed me that the next CD's to be released will be Cemetery records for a lot of Mass & Conn towns. Also the "Dewey" series which is very similar to "Springfield Families" but from the Westfield Mass and surrounding towns. About 2000 pages of data and he said its only available in the Westfield Library. That one should be real good for us as lots of our people were from that area. Check out their site and let me know what you think.
Is there anyone out there who is a descendant of Edwin Murray born about 1800? Or Edwin Murray Jr. born about 1820 who may be a brother of my great-grandfather, Pembroke Murray? Pembroke left AL about 1847-8 to journey to California and remained there until his death in 1878. Thank you for your answer--- Delong Murray at dmurray@lightspeed.net

Hi Collette, I probably didn't explain well enough. Barb McNamara, Deb Strahan and I are the ones trying to get the reunion together. I just wanted an address for you so I could let you know of the plans. Didn't want to keep going through your work site. We are planning on the last week in March. That's the only definite as of yet. We wanted to be there for Founder's Day. You are certainly most welcome. I guess having seen your name on the messages, I thought you were a Baptiste. Please do consider yourself as an honorary member of the family and we'd love to have you. I am trying to get addresses for as many as possible. If you have any, or could pass the word along, we would appreciate it. I recently corresponded with Jay, so he is aware of the get together. We are hoping to either go on the Bellingrath dinner/cruise or meet in a park. Will be ironing these plans out as the time goes on. Please do send an address so that I may stay in touch. If you'd like to forward this to those you mentioned, or any other family members, please do so. Thank you, June Venable jev@thegateway.net
Hello Collette, Hope this reaches you. I need an e-mail address for information on a Baptiste reunion next March. Since the e-group no longer exists, I'm trying to reach those who were members. So glad I came across your name. Please drop me a line. I've seen your name on messages to Jan, Barb, and Deb. Thank you, June Venable JEV@THEGATEWAY.NET
