Hi; I am looking for any info on my GG Grandfather George Smee Sr. Born (Essex England) 1838 Died in Bayou La Batre 1925. He came to the US as a stowaway and I found (If I remember right) a George Smee in LA some where around the 1860's. George was in the Rabby Coast Guard sometimes listed as John Smee. He married Armenia Grelotte. They lived in Bayou La Batre till there death. George worked as a Schooner Captian. If you can help me Please let me know! Thanks!
Have you tried the Mobile Probate Court Records on line? Don't know if they have your Creel's but worth a try. http://www.mobile-county.net/probate/ Also search the Bureau of Land Management - Tried this, saw 2 Elijah Creel listed for Alabama don't know whether they are yours or not..... http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/search/search.asp If someone out there has Ancestry.com - They might be able to look up your Creel's in the Alabama Death Index.... Back when Ancestry would offer their service free for 14 days, I found our ancestors: Sandoz, Allen & Weston listed....... In Alabama Gen. Reg. Sept, 1962, Vol. IV #3, p. 144 I found an entry about Mobile. It listed Carpenter, John Dew, A.B. merchant-Mobile., 1843, Eutaw; s. Jubal Carpenter; b. Dec. Dec. 29, 1822; Cotton Factor and Commission Merchant. I would like to know more about these entries, but I don't know where to look. Is there a book of cotton factors from the time period? I think I found the last copy in existence of "Love's Legacy" at a well-hidden book store in New Orleans. I checked around all other book stores in the area and the out-of-print shops and no one seems to have another copy. ULL in Lafayette says they have no plans to reprint. If anyone wants me to look up a marriage in Mobile between 1724-1786, I'll be glad to do so. Hope to see you in '02. Rita __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I am looking for any info on Thomas G. Humberson and wife Sarah who were in Old St. Stephens in 1821-1822. I am needing to find out if they had children with names Jerome G. b ca 1810 and Alexander Marion b ca 1812-1816. Jerome G. and Alexander Marion was supposedly, by rumor, orphaned when Jerome was ca 10-12 yrs of age. We really need to find the parents and I feel this is the Humberson we are looking for, but we need informationl. I also need to know when they died and where they are buried. And if it isn't asking too much, where did Thomas G. Humberson and wife Sarah come from. I do know Thomas G. Humberson had purchased a place in Old St. Stephens and I believe it was sold in 1822. I just need answers. Thanks! Joyce Bearden joyce_bearden@excite.com _______________________________________________________ Send a cool gift with your E-Card http://www.bluemountain.com/giftcenter/
