I have a gr-gr-aunt who died in 1962 at a Cogburn's Rest Home in Mobile and the funeral home on the death certificate is listed as Higgins Mortuary. Does anyone know where those records might be today? I have attempted to find an obituary for her but so far have been unsuccessful. She died 4/28/1962 and her name was Emma Bryan Rudd. Thanx for any suggestions. Harry Rudd Bowie, Md

A family of Busbys lived in Mobile on Mohawk St. btw Govt. and Senator Streets in the 1960's. I believe there were several sons. They attended Little Flower Cath. School on Govt. St. Mr. Busby's car was hit by a train and he became a paraplegic in the mid 60's.

When I was all the way across country in Mobile last year I found the Genealogy branch of the Mobile Public Library on Government Street to be a treasure chest. It has so many resources to explore. City Directories, books, books about my family. The genealogy branch is located across the street from the main library. Barbara LawBarbara@aol.com
Phone directories? Cross reference directories? City directories as sort of a combination---probably. But you say 'Mobile area'-----that could be a problem. -M Lander ---- Original Message ----- From: Liz Eisele <liznchal@dandy.net> To: <AL-MOBILEBAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 16, 2001 3:05 PM Subject: [AL-MOBILEBAY] street listings > Is there any way to find old telephone listings back to the 1960's for the Mobile area? I thought the below was a great idea that I am going to put into immediate practice. I wanted to share it with all researchers that might be interested. It came from a suggestion by Germaine J. Ellis published in the Ancestry Newsletter. Blessings, Bob RE Speese ___ FAMILY DIRECTORY I am from a family of twelve children in Québec City, Canada. We developed a great family closeness as we grew and left home. One of my brothers started a family directory, which lists the names and address of all the descendants of my parents. In three generations, it has grown to over two hundred individuals with birth, marriage, and death dates (if appropriate) as well as home and business phone numbers. We live in Québec, Ontario, New Jersey, DC, Texas, California, as well as London and Paris. I never leave home without my directory and it proved particularly useful on 11 September 2001 because my son worked in the World Trade Center. I was driving to Iowa at the time and could not reach anyone, but I could give the Red Cross info on my son and his family. At the end of the day, I heard he was safe and I could reach all my children. Happier uses are for sending postcards, anniversary or birthday cards and to edit my genealogy program with new information. Germaine J.
