    3. Some months ago, I wrote a note to this list trying to find a Martha Belle Isle Cooksey, who had grown up in Atlanta and moved to Mobile in the early 1990's. She is 77 years old, and is a 2nd cousin of mine. I lately found that, after her husband Buster Cooksey died, she married a man whose surname was PRICE, and was living at 6504 Airport Boulevard in June of 1985, when her mother Sara died. The number is disconnected, and directory assistance has no listing there now, which means she is probably no longer there. Her mother had been at Allen Memorial Nursing Home (which gave me the above address information). Also, her old work number is disconnected. Martha also had a sister named Marian who married an ALLEN. If any of this sounds familiar to anyone, will you please e-mail me privately at tom2pat@earthlink.net? Pat Hansen Phoenix

You must also be sure that you are sending your messages from an address that is subscribed to the list. I checked the subscribers list for e-mail addresses with "tripptroop" in them and found only tripptroop@earthlink.net. I did not find tripptroop@insight.rr.com. I'm sending this to the list because I get quite a number of bounced messages each week from subscribers who subscribe with one e-mail address then try to send e-mail to the list from another e-mail address (like work e-mail or a secondary web-mail account). Remember folks, you must send the message from the e-mail address that you used to subscribe. However, you can subscribe more than one e-mail address. You should also UNsubscribe your old e-mail address and SUBscribe again whenever you change e-mail addresses. 2. Hello, I am still seeking information and business records of Jackson Belknap of Mobile, who was a prominent local businessman and flag maker for Alabama Civil War units from 1860 through 1865. He was mentioned in Caldwell Delaney's books three times. If he has any living Mobile descendents I would like to know that as well. Thanks in advance, Greg Biggs

    3. -----Original Message----- From: RESpeese@aol.com [mailto:RESpeese@aol.com] Sent: Monday, February 18, 2002 2:53 PM To: AL-MOBILEBAY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [AL-MOBILEBAY] Re: Mobile obituaries-Ralph Poore The Mobile Press Register, now just the Register, used to physically keep obituary clippings in vertical files. Now it uses electronic programs to index the paper. The paper's library is closed to the public. It's a resource for reporters and because of problems with people coming in and removing things from the files, it was closed many years ago. There are rare exceptions for researchers, usually someone at the university level. Obituaries that ran in the paper were of two types: paid and news. Obituaries that came from the mortuary are the paid kind and ran in small type near the classifieds. News obituaries ran in the local news pages and were written by reporters, but were often dictated by the mortuary which called the newsroom if the death was of a prominent person or if the family requested it. Essentially, anyone who wanted a news obituary could get one. You just had to ask. Because of the switchover to electronic indexing methods when I was at the paper, I became concerned that the clipping files might be sent to the dump. So I began working to get the clippings sent to the City Archives, where many of the older files are stored today. Ralph Poore 2575 Falling Brook Lane Boise, ID 83706 poorehouse1@msn.com Ralph, Would you know if the "paper" itself keeps such information and is it available to the public. I have always understood papers kept a "morgue" and somehow one could have access to the information.
