I'm not sure if this will help anyone, but I have the following for Cemeteries of Alabama: http://www.interment.net/us/al/index.htm A while back I believe someone was asking about the Probate Court of Mobile County, here is what I have: http://www.mobile-county.net/probate/ Marilyn Weston _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com
I remembered the road, it is called Padgett Switch Rd. If you turn south on Padget Switch off of Hwy 90 you will come to Hwy 188 and that is where that cemetery is. Charlene Moore
I went to the following site and what I got was USGS Surveys, not any listing of interments. Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated. The Mobile Public Library has a number of cemetery indexes for Mobile including Magnolia Cemetery and I believe the Odd Fellows if I remember correctly. Email them at mpllhg@acan.net This is the Local History and Genealogy Division. They can tell you what they have and if it is just a lookup probably will do it over the phone. If you need copies they will tell you how to get them on Interlibrary Loan. There is no charge for the copies. You can also access the catalog at their website. That is http://mplonline.org . That way you can look for other books that may help locate info for you. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Kendrick_@webtv.net> To: <AL-MOBILEBAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 16, 2002 1:11 PM Subject: [AL-MOBILEBAY] CEMETERY? > I am in need of a lookup. Hi Everyone, Volunteers for the West Florida Regional Library (WFRL) "Reference-Genealogy" Department are in the process of Surname Indexing 36 Volumes of original Fisher-Pou Funeral Home, Pensacola, Florida Financial Account Records that span the period between December 1926 and August 1979 ... Besides local Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties, Florida residents, the records reflect those services provided to transport individual remains to distant locales throughout the United States ... They also reflect the receipt of (out-of-state death) remains for burial in local cemeteries ... The Original Records are on microfilm and are available for local research at West Florida Regional Library, Pensacola, Florida and University of West Florida *John C. Pace* Library ... In recognition of the privacy of living individuals, we are only making available on-line the Surname Index of the Deceased ... Also in support of these same privacy guidelines, we have removed the exact street address and only provide [on line] the name of the city or town where an individual's death took place ... Currently, we have 9 Volumes [5,297 Individuals] completed and available on our Web Page [Dec. 1926 - Aug. 1947; and Sept. 1977 - Aug. 1978] ... You're invited to visit our Web Page at: > http://www.rootsweb.com/~flescamb/fisher-pou_index.htm Continue Success in Your Research ... Harold Wilkinson Project Coordinator Pensacola, Florida [Since Fisher-Pou served many families that span the Gulf Coast, I'm submitting this to the mailing lists associated with Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and the Florida Panhandle, and hope you will forgive the multiple receipt of the same message ...]

"Index to "Oddfellows Cemetery" in Batre La Batre" There is an index to cemeteries in Mobile County, AL on the web. Oddfellows is on the list. Hope this helps. Pat - I do not have an index, but I would be interested if there is such an index, I have ancestors there also. I know there was a book/booklet that lists Magnolia Cemetery and Bayou La Batre & some other cemeteries that was published years ago -- do not know name or where it can be found. Have you tried the Historical Society in Mobile? Marilyn Weston ******************************** From: Kendrick_@webtv.net Date: Thu, 16 May 2002 I am in need of a lookup. Hi..I hope there is some kind soul out there who can transcribe a death registration for me.. My great grandfather had a son " Herbert Lot Sidelinger" who died in Mobile in 1928. I need to clarify him..as in all the family censuses..there is a Lot H b. 1869 or a Herbert Lot born 1872...I feel as though they are the same person..I cant find either birth record in Maine... I think the death record would clear this up once and for all. If there is a fee to view the record, I would be happy to re-imberse...I dont need the actual paper..a transcription is fine...just as long as I have a source citation to give it..(place where found-volume-page-?) Thank You In Advance. Pam
This is all I could locate on the German Relief Hall. Before today's commercial insurance companies, many groups had fraternal organizations that assisted members in need and also served as a social organization. Many of Mobile's most prominent Jewish families belonged to The German Relief Association. The Gesang Vereen Frohsinn sponsored opera performances, chamber music, and other classical music programs in the association's hall, which still stands (or it did a few years ago). The association and similar German groups died out when anti-German sentiment was aroused by World War I. -----Original Message----- From: EMenden@aol.com [mailto:EMenden@aol.com] Sent: Wednesday, May 08, 2002 7:02 PM To: AL-MOBILEBAY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [AL-MOBILEBAY] German Relief Hall In a recent Mobile Press 'Yesterday's News', an article from the Wednesday, April 30, 1902 paper stated: "The Ancient Order of Hibernians gave the last of their monthly socials last night at German Relief Hall." My g-g-grandfather, James McAlister, arrived in New Orleans/Algiers LA in 1849(where he married Catherine Hull) and two years later was living in Mobile. He and several of his brothers settled "amidst many of his friends who arrived here from Scotland, mostly associated in the ship building industry in the southern part of the city of Mobile". This quote is from my grandfather M. V. O'Rourke's account of McAlister's life. James was born in Campbeltown, Argyll. So it seems that my Scot ancestor followed almost the same path as yours about the same time, and if you glance through Mobile's old city directories, you'll see that it was definitely a destination for immigrants. I'm curious if you have any info regarding the ships your ancestor took. If he worked in shipping, it is quite possible our ancestors knew each other. We found the following about a Frederick Heim in Alabama (possibly my great-grandfather): Frederick Heim found in: Passenger and Immigration Index, 1500s-1900s Place: Alabama Year: 1855 Primary immigrant: Heim, Frederick Permanent entry number: 8959116 Accession number: 1878104 Source publication code: 1390 Source publication page number: 21 Source publication: CRIGLER, ARTHUR D., GRACE R. Vol. 9:3 (Aug. 1972), pp. 19-25; vol. 9:4 (Nov. 1972), pp. 89-93. Q-1 Going through the Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, we have found no arrivals into Port of Mobile in the 1850s time range. How can we find out about such arrivals ? William and Frances Heim
My Scottish GGgrandparents came over on a ship from Ireland (spent 8 years there) arriving first week of January 1853 to New Orleans, LA and on to Mobile where they settled. According to a note by my Ggrandfather they went on a smaller boat to Mobile. I had the impression that Mobile must not have had much immigration during that period.
