    1. [AL-MOBILEBAY-L] RE:Birth Records
    2. Hi All, I am trying to find some kind of birth record for my Grandfather. I spoke with the very nice Gentleman at the vital statistics office and he told me that in the 1800s they did not have a place on the birth certificate for the child's name. Only the Mother and Fathers. He also said that it would say the year.Well, they can't seem to find anyone by the name of GEORGE WALLACE ALLMAN born in 1872 in Mobile. Nor do they have the other ALLMAN'S that I have. I know that I have the right Allmans and the right place because I have spoke with the families and I have the obits and have found them in the Pine Crest Cemetery. Please will someone let me know how I can find out if GEORGE WALLACE ALLMAN was born to MICHEAL CHARLES ALLMAN and EUNICE A JOINER (ALLMAN) June 6th 1872 in Mobile. Any help would be appreciated. I have Michael on the 1870 census in Mobile but George was not born yet. Thanks Patty

    1. [AL-MOBILEBAY-L] Howard's of Citronelle
    2. I am a descendent of Loammi Howard and Delilah Anne Prine. I am desperately searching for informtion on Loammi. I have that he was born somewhere in Georgia in 1804. He married Delilah Anne Prine in Mobile County on Jan 1, 1833 at her parents residence. They had several children: Mary Ann, Daniel, Emanuel (my ancestor), Kezekiah Karr, Harriet Axeth, John, Loammi Jr, George Washington, Susan Alavan, Emily Jane, and Franklin. The last child was born Apr 14, 1859. I have not been able to check the Mobile County Census' due to I live in Tennessee. Loammi is not buried in the same cemetary (Brannan, in Citronelle) as his wife. My questions are: When did he die? Since there is nothing on him after 1859, did he enlist in the Civil War and was he killed and buried somewhere else? Where in Georgia was he born, and who were his parents? There is also a Daniel Howard living in Citronelle at the same time. Some of his children have similar names as Loammi'. Was this his brother? Any information would be greatly appreciated. 3. Thanks Kathryn, At this point, since I only know my grandfathers name, for certain, I can't tell who might be related and who isn't. Zula is supposed to be his mothers first name, but that could be short for any number of names, or it might be her full first name. It will help alot if I can ever get a response from the gov't about his military papers. My grandmother is supposed to be on the 1900 Mobile census, as a child. She was listed with her father, William BRANNON, mother Edna (KORMAN) BRANNON, and brother Seymore. But the birth year for Rhoda was different from the info we had, so I wasn't going to consider it gospel until I have the paperwork to verify it. Still waiting on gov't pension info. Thank you very much for your help. I'll save all the info you sent, just in case any of them turn out to be kin. Thank you for your time Ruthie Carpenter

I read in an earlier post that the courthouse didn't burn down in Mobile. I would like to try to find any records relating to my family, especially marriage and death. My grandfather was Charlie Boyd LOTT b.10-Dec-189? (WW1 registration says "93", other papers said "98") d, 2-Aug-1936 m. Rhoda BRANNON Any help would be appreciated. 1. [AL-MOBILEBAY-L] Message from the Listowner

    3. Hello everyone, Here are some things to know and remember when participating in the MOBILE BAY AREA ROOTS [AL-MOBILEBAY] mailing list. * If your email software quotes the original message in your reply (which most do), PLEASE DELETE all text from the original message that is not germane to your response. Generally speaking, you do not need to quote an entire message to show what you are responding to. (This is VERY IMPORTANT and is not done often enough by listmembers.) * If you subscribe to the digest mode of the list, remember to change the subject line to reflect the subject of your reply. * If you are responding to a particular thread (a series of messages on the same subject) and the discussion starts to veer away from the original topic -- it's a good idea to change the subject line to reflect the new topic(s). Many people who subscribe to many lists (and therefore have to deal with a huge amount of email) typically just scan the subject lines and use only that information in their decision to read or not to read your message. * This list is set up so that the "default" setting for replies is "reply to list." This means that if you simply hit the reply button to respond to an email, it will be addressed to the list. If you want a message to go JUST to a certain person, you must put that person's email address in the TO: field and delete the list's email address. * All messages sent to the list (including "subscribe" and "unsubscribe" requests sent to the "-request" address) MUST be in PLAIN TEXT ONLY. Otherwise the Rootsweb mail server will spit them right back to you. I must say that I am VERY pleased with the amount of activity that this list is experiencing. We currently have 262 subscribers (mail and digest modes combined). If you haven't already, I encourage you to post your queries about specific ancestors that you are chasing and/or to post your surnames and counties (at least once) so that the message can be archived. The counties that are covered by this list are... ALABAMA - Baldwin, Clarke, Escambia, Mobile, Monroe and Washington FLORIDA - Escambia MISSISSIPPI - George, Greene and Jackson I also wish to commend you all on how pleasant, cooperative and helpful you have been in your responses to others' messages. A lot of family info has gone through here in the last couple weeks and I've seen many people making great connections. New subscribers should check out the archive of the list to see if messages have already come through that may be of interest to you. To visit the list archives, you need to point your web browser to http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl You will then need to enter the name of the list which is AL-MOBILEBAY and then you can search for whatever keywords you wish (like surnames or place names). I'm not sure if the archive can be searched by those of you who have email ability, but no Internet access. I'll check that out. If you have questions or comments about anything in this message, please email me privately at <[email protected]> Keep the messages flowing and let's keep reaching out and making connections. Kudos to you all. -- Regards, Kevin Sellew in Mobile, Alabama *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* President of the Mobile (Alabama) Genealogical Society -- a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization and WebMaster for the Mobile Genealogical Society Web Site On the Web: http://www.siteone.com/clubs/mgs/ *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
