    1. Re: [AL-MOBILEBAY-L] death notices
    2. Here he is in Montgomery in 1870: Census Index: U.S. Selected States/Counties, 1870 Ryan, William State : AL County : Montgomery Co. Location : 6 W. Montgomery Year : 1870 Page # : 548 Why don't you look for his immigration papers? That would tell you his birthday, occupation, etc. It would also show who traveled with him. Also, check the records in Mobile with the Catholic diocese. Any children of his would probably have been christened. Godparents listed on those records might also give you clues to his friends and family. Check to see who is buried in Catholic Cemetery in Mobile and Magnolia Cemetery in Mobile. He might have kin buried there. Good luck! Kathryn

I first found my g-grandfather Henry Jacoby when he married his wife Teresa Goldstucker on 1 April 1850 in Mobile. I think I have him arriving New York from Germany on Bark CONDOR on 9-30-1843 but haven't been able to find out how either one got to Mobile or when they arrived - any help? 2. They were listed in 1850 census in Marengo enumerated with a Marshall family on a farm. Not listed in 1860 census index but I did happen to find him in the 1860 census by himself in the Mobile waterfront area. The family is in the 1870 census in Mobile but Teresa died in childbirth that year and is buried in the old Jewish section of Magnolia Cemetery. Sincerely appreciate any info. Will be making a visit to Mobile the first week in June 99. Thanks much. Henry Jacoby --------------4E595DC6321F0945D29D2D66--

I believe that Higgins and Roche Funeral Homes were the oldest ones in Mobile and were probably in existence then. Roche is still in existence. It has a new name that I can't remember( Some nice person wrote me, gave me the new name, and address. I failed to save it. Sorry!) They may still have records of your ancestor. If they do, you will be surprised at how much information you will find on the record! Most of the time, it's like striking gold! Good luck! Kathryn

    2. Dear Don: I have been having a heck of a time trying to find my Grandfathers birth certificate. In those days 1872 or around the birth certificates did not have a place for the childs name. So, it would say boy or girl born to whatever the childs name was. But,here is an address that might help you. All of the main records are supposed to be held here that are still available. State of Alabama Department of Archives and History PO Box 300100 Montgomery Alabama 36130. Send in $12.00. And if they don't find anything they will return your money. Hope that this helps. 2. Hi, I am trying to find the funeral homes that may have been in Creighton in1828.My Great-Grandfather died on March 23rd 1928 in his home at 2616 Springhill Ave on this date. His funeral was at home and the mass was at Saint Catherines. He was buried at Pine Crest Cemetary. My Grandfathers name was omitted on the obit and I was wondering who did the obit. My Great-Grandmother was already gone and who ever did the obit did not know one of My Grandfathers sisters name either it just says Mrs. W.D. Hamilton while the other sister is named. Also, if anyone has access to a male child born to Michael and Eunice ALLMAN on June 16th 1872 in Mobile, could you please pass the information along to me?I would sure be Thankful for any information. Best Regards, Patty ALLMAN O'Neil

    1. Re: [AL-MOBILEBAY-L] death notices
    2. Thanks to all that checked death notices for me. there may not have been any printed, but I know that they were there, as that is where my grandfather was born. He was born John Cullen Ryan on June 2,1867, but for some reason, he later changed his name to William John Ryan. It is possible that his father could have Been John Ryan, as I have found out that in Ireland during the early times, a boy was often times born with two names and later picked up his fathers first name as his middle name. There also were two sisters that were born there but died at an early age. ANNIE C. RYAN. (Dec.10,1861) and MARY RYAN (Aug. 27, 1863). I also have a copy if an 1850 Census that list a possibility. Also, does anyone have the address where I can write to obtain a copy of my grandfathers birth certificate? If there is one then it should shed some light. For some unknown reason, my grandparents did not pass on any information and I have having quite a time of it. Don Ryan

    1. Re: [AL-MOBILEBAY-L] death notices
    2. Don, I checked Burial Records, Mobile County, Alabama, 1820-1856, Volume I published by the MGS IN 1963 and find no William Ryan, nor any Ryan during July, from 1840-1850. I also checked Tombstone Incriptions, Catholic Cemetery, Mobile Alabama, published by MGS in 1986 and although there are several Ryans buried there in the 1800s, none match your person's name or date.
