    3. Hi Meg, thanks for note. I'm not in Mobile, just visit there occasionally. My connection is that my grandmother was a Baumhauer, married a Lynch. I'm not directly connected to either the Lyle's or Therrels. Good luck on finding some 'good info' on your trip to Mobile. I tdhink a key question at this time is what was the relationship between Linda Dodds Baumhauer and the rest of the Dodd clan? Bye for now. 3. Hi, I had just sent a reply to Bronya about Mark Dodds Therrel. The Mark Dodds Therrel I knew was the son of Mr. Mark and Mrs. Barbara Dodds Therrel. "Bobby" was one of my mother's two best friends in Whistler. The other was Mrs. Linda Baumhauer. I was not "into" genealogy when I lived in Whistler but I wonder now if Mrs. Linda and Bobby could have been Dodds sisters. Probably not. 3. In the E-mail exchange regarding the new book by Charles Bryant (Tensaw Country, North of the Ellicott Line) a reference was made to "Mrs. Mandrell's" book. I must have missed the messages regarding this book. Assuming it is also about Mobile & Baldwin Cos., would appreciate more info as to title and contents. Also, if anyone has a copy of either book would like to know if any of the following surnames appear in the indexes: Barlow, Hatter, Kilcrease, Ladd. Many thanks. Addice

    2. Two years ago I wrote a book on the "History of 29 United Methodist Churches in Baldwin County." It contains a section on Gerald Byrne and his descendents. A lot of this information came from his descendents and things they had previously written about him. Its a small book but contains an index with over 1800 names. All proceeds of this book (including my publishing cost) go to the First United Methodist Church of Bay Minette Building Fund. I would never use this method to sell books but I feel this is a worthly cause and I will receive no funds whatsoever from it. I will be happy to search for names in this book for anyone interested. 3. There has been several researchers who have mentioned Clark Co. AL. May I suggest a book entitled "Clark County Alabama and its Surroundings" by the Rev. T.H. Ball that covers many of the early families who were in Clark Co. It contains almost eight hundred pages and is very informative. Yes, it is indexed! > Melba Goff Allen Southern Families http://members.tripod.com/~mallen4896/Index.html

    1. Re: [AL-MOBILEBAY-L] Yellow fever epidemic
    2. There was a yellow fever epidemic in Mobile, AL in the summer of 1848. My great-great grandparents, Louis Gabriel Touart and Margarita Quina (Jr.) Touart lost three boys, 8 1/2, 4, and 1 1/2 that summer. I know there was another yellow fever epidemic but I'm not sure of the date. This same gggrandparents lost 3 more, a boy 7 1/2 and girls 5 and 2 to scarlet fever in the summer of 1857. There was also a smallpox epidemic in Pensacola in 1874 because a surviving daughter lost an 8 year old girl then. 1. [AL-MOBILEBAY-L] Re: Birth info for Linda Baumhauer / Mark Dodds
    2. This was all very interesting to me, since my husband's uncle was named Mark Dodds Therrell. I asked someone once where the 'Dodds' came from, and they told me that Mark Dodds was a very well-known and respected member of the Whistler community. Several families named children after him. The Therrells were long-time residents of Whistler. I made a xerox copy, years and years ago, of the WHISTLER TOWN DIRECTORY 1876. Listed here was Jaques Baumhauer, baker, Jolly & Peterson, residence on se corner of Culvert and Gould. I had also copied inscriptions from tombstones in the Whistler Cemetery and find Mark L Dodds, 1852 - 1950, and his wife, Margaret A Dodds, 1856 - 1924. Bronya, this must be your Mark Dodds and his wife, Maggie Myers Dodds. There is a George Henry Baumhauer (an infant) who was born 29 Dec 1949 and died 12 Feb 1950, and is buried in the George H. Therrell plot in the Whistler Cemetery. Does anyone know the connection between the Baumhauers and Therrells? Earlene Lyle

    2. I have a Davis ancestor, but have never researched the line because of the many Davis families in South Alabama. However, I see that there are several Davis researchers using this site. My g-g-grandmother, Elizabeth Davis married Henry Hunter in Camden, SC in 1792. She was b. 1767, and d. 1844 in Dallas Co. She and Henry are buried in the Old Beulah Cemetery in Conecuh. They had children Charles Davis Hunter, John Starke Hunter, Henry Lawrence Hunter (father of Ransom D. Hunter, d. Mobile) and Elizabeth Hunter, who m. 1st Samuel W. Oliver in Conecuh and 2nd Alphonso M. Sprague in Dallas. The Spragues moved to Mobile, where all children by both marriages were married. Does Elizabeth Davis Hunter fit into anyone's Davis line?
