    1. [AL-MOBILEBAY-L] Gage's Battery, CSA Artillery Group from Mobile
    2. While typing some information about one of my ancestors, James H. Hill, who was in Gage's Battery during the Civil War, I noticed some names on the roster that may be names recently mentioned on the Mobile Bay List or Alabama List. This unit was composed of Mobilians. So, I have listed them below, along with a little information about the battery, for all of you to view, just in case the list includes one of your ancestors. The list is kind of long. I hope that no one minds the post being so long. Kathryn Gage’s Battery (from Confederate Military History) Gage’s battery was organized at Mobile in October 1861, and remained under the command of Captain Charles P. Gage in the defenses of the city until the following spring. Sent north, it suffered severely at Shiloh, where its conduct was highly commended by Generals Withers and Chalmers. It then returned to Mobile, and was used in the defenses until the fall of the city. Lieuts. James H. Hill and James T. Hutchisson were promoted, and commanded the battery at different times. Complete Roster of Gage’s Battery (Courtesy of Col. Thomas O’Rourke, Scott and Charleston Streets, Mobile, AL) Captains: Charles P. Gage, James H. Hill, James H. Hutchisson lst Lt.: James H. 3. This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------D2D704CFDF8305A6810BE817 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I am searching for any information on Zachariah Phillips (Jr) born in 1810 and died in 1887. Zachariah is buried next to his wife Elizabeth in the Little River Baptist Church Cemetery located just across the Monroe County line off Highway 59. The graves appear to be the oldest there. There was a Zachariah Phillips, very possibly Zachariah Jr's father, mentioned in a book about the Fort Mims Massacre, Battle of Burnt Corn and Fort Sinquefield. The Zachariah mentioned in the book was elected Major of the Little River Militia that participated in the Battle of Burnt Corn. My Uncle told me that Zachariah (Jr), buried in the Little River Baptist Cemetery, was half Creek and there was a Phillips woman and her children related to us that was saved from the Fort Mims massacre by William Weatherford because he either knew the Phillips family or was somehow related to the woman. There was a Phillips massacred at Fort Mims but I do not have the first name. Zachariah Jr's descendants were Charles Thomas Jefferson Phillips (son), Thomas Jefferson Phillips (grandson), Edison C. Phillips Sr. (g-grandson) and Edison Cody Phillips Jr. (g-g-grandson). Charles and Thomas are also buried at Little River but in different cemeteries. I am seeking anyone who may have pictures, old bibles, letters, books or any information on these Phillips'. All I know is they may have come from Georgia sometime in the late 1700's or very early 1800's. Thank You for any assistance. 1. Re: [AL-MOBILEBAY-L] FLINN
    2. Ronald None of the names are familiar to me. But I have so little to go on. John M. Flinn lived at Clairborne Monroe Co Al. in the 1830's. James is said to have built boats or owned boats. I find that a James M. Flinn was an Acting Gunner on the CSS Morgan from 1861 - 1863. A sister Martha Ann T. Flinn married Lemuel Augustus Rawls in Monroe Co 10 Oct 1837. The Southern Argus reported "Johnn Flyn attempted to cut his wife's throat in Mobile the other day" (Issue 9-20-1872). ? Well, I will take what I can get. 1816 Census of Monroe Co. Al. has 2 males under 21, 1 over 21: 1 female under 21. This is my John M. Flinn. Who is the other male under 21. My Martha Ann T. Flinn was not born until 1817. Who is the female? Sorry I can't help you. Wish we could help each other. Dorothy Cox

    2. Ruthie Lott/Carpenter
    3. Hi Patti, In the lookup you did for Sue Plaster, you listed these Brannons: Jan 6, 1829 Frederick Lewis married Elizabeth Branon/Branin. Oct 1, 1840 Jackson A. Brannon married Zilla Pugh Do you know where I might find more info on Zilla? Does your book give any info as to where they were married ie; church name, etc? My father was shown a grave as a child and told it was his grandmother. He thought the headstone had said Zula. I've been looking for a similar name on the Lott side, with no luck. Until now I hadn't even considered looking on the Brannon side of the family, since he also thought it had said Lott. Any info you have would be appreciated. Thank you for your time!
