That was an interesting list of Capt. Gage's men, but I don't see the name of John Bolman. I have a paper from the Adjutant General's Office of the War Department dated Oct 3, 1908 to one of my aunt's who had written regarding Bolman's records. The paper states "The records show that one John Bolman was mustered into service October 10, 1861, at Mobile, Ala as 3rd sergeant in Captain Gage's Company, Alabama Artillery, subsequently Company E, 2d Battalion, Alabama light Artillery, Confederate States Army, to serve 12 months and that his age was stated as 43 years." There was only one John Bolman in Mobile at that time; we know he served in the Civil War, and the age is right. Cynthia
If you can scan the Williams, you might open options around the brick wall I am facing. Thank you so much for the time and effort. If I can help you, please let me know. BV62657389
Because I have a deadend, I know it is selfish, but could you send all of them? I would appreciate the help and will look up anything I can for you..Mobile, AL or Douglas Co., MO. especially. Thanks, BV
If anyone has an 1850 Mobile census, could you do a look up for me. I am trying to determine if a Patrick Cullen, with a daughter, Annie Cullen is on it. If so, could you tell me the names of the family members. Don
Hi Patti This is not directly related to your query, and I don't know if you've seen this, but I saw "Dismukes" on the list of people at the Ft. Mims, AL massacre. I couldn't tell from the info given if all of the family was killed or what. Since you are a descendant, obviously, someone survived, or you're from a different branch. Just wanted to let you know that there were Dismukes in that area, in the hopes that you might find more around there too. Also, how is that name pronounced?? HI Just wanted to let you know the name "Wade Hampton" is part of a WHIDDON naming pattern. Please advise if you come across any Whiddon marriages in your line. Thank You! I am also researching Flinns in Alabama. My book, Clarke Co. records lists: Jan 13, 1841 Elisha Ingram married Sarah Flynn. Aug 16, 1823 John Ingrim married Elizabeth Geney Sep 22, 1825 John M. Ingram married Susan Stephans Jun 4, 1835 Herbert Stephens married Margaret Ingram Mar 13, 1836 William Ingram married Mary Byrd Aug 12, 1849 Samuel Raborn married Elizabeth Ingram I'd love to find out if there is a connection between Sarah Flynn and my James A.B. Did you check Masgnolia internment, not tombstone records? Ten to 20% of internments have no stones. ----- Original Message ----- From: Marian Cranford <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, May 18, 1999 9:27 AM Subject: Re: [AL-MOBILEBAY-L] Look-up needed from death notices > Hi - This won'te really helpl, but may let you rule out Magnolia Cem - I > looked up the Wells listed in the index of the Magnolia Cemetery, 1828 - > 1971 book, and none fit your James B. Dear Dorothy, My James Flinn was born 1814 and went to AL whild young with his parents. He could be one of the children listed in the 1816 Census of Monroe Co--but how would I know?? The male over 21 and the female under 21 could have been husband and wife, and the 2 males under 21 could be children. Someone also told me there are also Flinns listed in the book, Alabama Early Settlers 1816 "Alabama Counties--Mississippi Territory" by Briarwood Press, 1983: Flinn, John M. - Madison Co. Flinn, John M. - Monroe Co. There must have been two!! Patti

Here is a wonderful site for anyone who may have ancestors who spent some time in Clarke County, MS: www.netpathway.com/~bennie/clarke.html Bennie has a searchable website for Clarke Co, MS that includes census information, cemetery info and deeds. Jackie Feldman
Hi, the Wade Hampton Cardwell I'm researching was born Oct 6 1840 and died April 25 1917 in Bluff Spring FL. I am hoping to prove that he was the brother of Susan Cardwell McNeal, my great grandmother. I haven't come across any Whiddons as yet, but will keep it in mind. I do know that Wade H's wife's name was Fannie Duck. The pension record on him is supposed to be 14 pages long so hopefully there will be more info then. Emma in NM
I need some help by people that know a lot more than I do. I have found my mothers grandfather listed on the 1920 Washington Co. Ala census. It list his birthplace as Mississippi as well as his parents. But I need to make a connection to be sure. John DEARMAN b.1871 Miss wife Edna b.1880 Ala There are several children listed: Annie,Mary,Henry,May,Agness Estell, Vardy, The next two households have George DEARMAN and James DEARMAN They do the same work etc. Have to be related. John Henry was the son of John Dearman. He married a lady by the name of Ola Mae BARRY/BERRY or Johnson Can anyone tell me any thing about these persons? Where they came from (County) and where they may have gone to ? The surnames of their wives and the children they had ? Do you know of any ties ? I don't know what else to do, or where to search. That is why I am asking you for help. Thank you for your time and any help. Kay
Jan, I was the one who sent in the original DISMUKES/ROBINSON query to Patti. Do you remember what the first names were or where I can view this info? It is pronounced just like it is spelled, Dis' mukes. It cam from Des'Mukes. Thanks, Pat Ross
Hi - This won'te really helpl, but may let you rule out Magnolia Cem - I looked up the Wells listed in the index of the Magnolia Cemetery, 1828 - 1971 book, and none fit your James B. Sorry, but good luck. Kathryn, thanks for the posting. I didn't see anyone I know, but the Hy Cardwell could be related to "my" Cardwells. I am waiting now for pension info on Wade Hampton Cardwell who was in the 12th AL Co D Infantry (Rode's battalion I believe) If my vote counts for anything, I love to see info of any length posted to the list. I have found a number of good clues from postings that were just random info someone else found and passed on. Thanks again. Emma in NM
Fellow researchers, Does anyone have the series of books published by the Mobile Genealogical Society listing death notices from newspapers of the 1800s? I need a look-up for the surname Wells. I am not sure of the year but would probably be before 1820. I am looking for the names of the parents of my ancestor, James B. Wells. They supposedly died in a yellow fever epidemic in Mobile. James was born in Georgia, but his parents were believed to be from New England. From an earlier query regarding epidemics in Mobile, I received information that there was an epidemic in Mobile in 1819 and that this particular set of books existed. Thanks in advance for any help.
