For those of you who were wondering, as I was, about the parents of Linda Dodds Baumhauer of Whistler, AL (diceased), I think I know the answer to the riddle now. Her grandson, with whom I've been in contact (and who also didn't know her background) as learned that the story goes that she was the daughter to one of Mark Dodds'es brothers. The brother, however, deserted the mother and daughter when Linda was a small girl. Then, a little later, the mother left the daughter to run off with another man. So, evidently Mark Dodds adopted Linda when she was orphaned by circumstances. Linda's son (my correspondent's uncle) tried to ask her about details late in life, but she refused to discuss it. (I guess she was still ashamed.) A very sad story, but at least she found protection from a kind and generous uncle and married well, as far as I know, and produced a successful and upright family in spite of her tragic early life. Joe, I am going to include the cem. records of Palestine Cem. in Wilmer, AL on Southern Families. Since you was the one who sent the information to me, do you want me to link to your email? I am going to state that you donated the material. This is your Pierce family. Melba

I am descended from BRANNANs who settled in Johnston County, NC. My gr-gr-grandfather was Cader Brannan. He had a grandson named Cader Brannan, who is listed on the Jo Co 1850 census as age 5 and again on the 1860 census as age 15. He disappears from Jo Co records thereafter. Recently I discovered Brannans in Mississippi, and one of them was Cader Brannan. He was a patentee for land in Greene Co, MS on June 30, 1892. I think that he might be connected to my Johnston Co Brannans, since he has that rather rare name, Cader. If anyone knows anything about the Greene Co, MS Brannans, please contact me. I am interested in the following persons: Judith (Elizabeth) Lankford Byrd married Jesse Byrd died after 1845 Mary Ann Lankford McInnis married Philip McInnis died about 1832 Edmund (Edward) Lankford died before 1840 Mary McInnis Lankford married Eleby Lankford died after 1860 Eleby Lankford died after 1860 Also seeking the wife of Edmund. Her name is unknown. The family lived in Washingon Co.Al. the ladies married in Mobile Co. AL, then the families moved on to Greene Co.MS. about 1840. Stories have it that the family owned land in both areas and moved backand forth. The McInnis' were the children of John McInnis born Scotland who came to the Miss Terr. about 1810-11 on a Georgia passport. Thanks for the assistance. Need all the help I can get as the Greene Co. records are lost. Poldi
Hi, My husband and I have reached an impasse in trying to trace his Ggrandmother (Fanny Elizabeth Waller). We know she was born in Montgomery, AL November 9, 1863 and that she married my husbands' Ggrandfather (Daniel H. Verneuille) in Mobile, December 11, 1879. We also know that she died June 17, 1932 in Mobile. We therefore obtained her death certificate in hopes of finding parental information. Originally the D/C indicated "Unknown" in the space for parents (lines 13 thru 16), but 3 months later it was changed to reflect data for she and Daniel rather than her parents. We haven't a clue as to who her parents were. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Plodding Along in Georgia, Betty
Cynthia: On the list is a Jno Holman as 3rd Sgt. The name may have been misspelled by whomever transcribed the list. I found this EXACT list on file in the Gage's Battery file at the Alabama Archives about ten years ago. As you can see, it was furnished by a gentleman from Mobile who had knowledge of the unit. I don't know what his sources were. (I revisited the Archives last summer, and there was no file with this information in it. I had the clerk add some things to the empty file. I don't know what happened to the originals I had seen earlier.) Do you have any additional information about the unit? Kathryn
You're welcome, Emma. Kathryn
