I can provide copies of his service record. Please contact me at pittsaj14@hotmail.com if they would be of interest. This company was recruited in Cherokee County and called the “Cherokee Guards”. Officers and men entered state service on July 24, 1861. On August 11, 1861, members departed Kirk’s Grove, Alabama, and enlisted in Confederate service at Huntsville, Alabama, the following day. The first captain was William E. Kirkpatrick, who resigned on February 17, 1862. Capt. Marvel M. Israel was wounded at Chickamauga, Georgia, September 20, 1863, and died at Kingston, Georgia, April 8, 1864.
