    3. In the book "1907 Census of Confederate Soldiers in Alabama" it states that my ancestor: THOMAS TAYLOR: b. 1823 Lexington District, South Carolina. He enlisted at Camp Watts, Alabama, in the Home Guards and continued service until the close of the War in 1865. What exactly were the Home Guards, why would he be doing that and where can I find out more about Thomas Taylor and the Home Guards. Thanking you for your kind attention, I am, B.W.
