Micajah Harper was elected captain of the "Andalusia Beauregards". This company organized January 12, 1861, and entered Confederate service at Montgomery, Ala., Aug. 29, 1861, as Company "A" of the 1st Alabama Infantry Battalion. At the end of 1861 the 1st and 6th Alabama Battalions merged to form the 25th Alabama Regiment. Capt. Harper's company continued to carry the letter designation "A". Micajah Harper was killed while leading his company in the Battle of Shiloh on April 6, 1862. David Harper enlisted later with Company "H", 53rd Alabama Partisan Rangers. This company organized at Elba, Alabama, August 18, 1862, members mustering at Cotton Gin, Mississippi, February 8, 1863. A contact who has studied the 53rd Alabama in some detail can provide day-to-day information about that command. Please reply to pittsaj14@hotmail.com if I can assist you with copies of a Confederate service record, pension application or other related historical material.
