My gg grandfather Alexander Sims Enlisted in Guntersville, Ala on Jan 15, 1862. According to his widows pension application, the unit was the above mentioned. Evidently his military records are missing because she made application by affidavit. For years I have assumed that he would have wound up in Co H of Russell's Regiment of 4th Ala Cav. He was listed on a battlefiled report as killed in action on march 17, 1863. The 4th Ala was engaged near Shelbyville, Tenn, March, 4th - 7th, but I cannot even find a skirmish on the 17th. Could he possibly have been moved to some other unit other than Co H of Russell's 4th. Ala Cav.? He had two neighbors serve in Co K of 4th Ala., and one future son-in-law and one future brother-in-law served in Co H of Russell's Reg. It is also quite likely he personally knew Col Russell prior the war. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Ed Sims
