    1. [AL-Civil-War] Re: Two men named William Henry LEDBETTER a/k/a W. H. LEDBETTER one born 1819 and one 1843

    3. I apologize for the length of this. I would appreciate any suggestions or information anyone might give me regarding the following: I am researching genealogy on my ancestors - a possiblity is W. H. LEDBETTER a/k/a William H. LEDBETTER dob abt c 1819, wife Lucinda McCall on the 1850 Giles Co, TN Fed census and married 8/31/1842 Limestime Co, AL, parents from AL per census. He was back in AL on 1860 census. My question is did he serve in the Civil War and if so how do I get copies of his records, including pension records perhaps? He could be an uncle of my greatgrandfather William Henry LEDBETTER b 12/5/1843 Giles Co, TN a/k/a W. H. LEDBETTER a/k/a CAPT LEDBETTER . I can't find this Wm Henry's father's name. His family and friends called him Captain and he served in the Civil War out of Texas. He enrolled at Tollet's Prairie, Lamar County, Texas as 2nd Sgt. in Co K, 9th Texas Infantry, Ector's Brigade, Cheathams's Division, Polks Corps, Army of Tennessee. He was elected 2nd Lt. then, after being wounded 3 times and serving as a Courier because he couldn't walk, he was appointed Captain under Gen H! ood. He also served in the Texas Rangers for many years during the Indian uprisings leaving as a Captain. On his pension records regarding the Civil War he states he was taken to relatives in Gourdesville, Limestone County, Alabama when wounded - which links him to the Alabama W. H. Ledbetter but not as a father, hopefully an uncle. His father died in the 1840s and I haven't determined his given name. I wrote for Civil War and Wellborn's Alabama Mounted Volunteers records and received the following but I can't determine which W.H. or William Ledbetter might be him. Can someone use his birth year 1819 and help me. A copy of a cemetery monument and description of the inscriptions in Athens City Cemetery in memory of some Confederate veterans - one is Wm. Ledbetter, Co. f 9th Ala A Confederate list that includes the state - Page 385 - I am listing only the ones from AL (hopefully!): Ledbetter, W. H. AL 9th Inf. Co. F (I believe this is the one on the above monument) Ledbetter, William AL 31st Inf. Co.E,B,I Ledbeter, William Talladega Cty.Res L Stone's Co Ledbetter William H. AL 5th Inf. New Co.B Ledbetter, William H. AL 17th BNS.S. Co. B 1st Sgt. Ledbetter, William H. AL 39th Inf. Co.K I also wrote for information on the Wellborn's Alabama Mounted Volunteers because during research I came across a quote "one of the relatives served under Capt. Ledbetter, Wellborn's Alabama Mounted Volunteers, during attacks by Seminole Indians from Florida. (Alabama Melitia)." Since my greatgrandfather entered the Civil War at age 17 as a Sgt, I thought surely he served somewhere previously in some capacity, so maybe he lived with his uncle in AL after his father died and served with the Wellborn's unit before coming to TX in 1857. I received nothing on this request. Can anyone tell me how to receive information on this? Thanks, Jackie Midkiff
