    3. I am new to this list and wanted to post my interests in case others are searching for similar information. My father's family lived in Andalusia, Covington County, Alabama during the Civil War. My gg-grandfather Henry Kierce served in the 63rd Alabama Infantry as a Corporal in Companies C & E. His brother Daniel Kierce served in the 42nd Alabama Infantry in Company E. His older brother George W. Kierce was a 2nd Lieutenant in the 42nd Alabama Infantry Company E. They were both captured during the Siege at Vicksburg on July 4, 1863. Daniel Kierce was taken prisoner and was paroled on May 1, 1865 in Greensboro, North Carolina. George W. Kierce was taken prisoner and later paroled but was released on October 28, 1863 due to heath problems. He later was assigned as Captain of the Covington County Reserves, for Company A on August 27, 1864 and later was commanding officer for all Covington County Regiments until after the end of the war. Henry Kierce was taken prisoner at Citronelle, Alabama on May 4, 1865 and was sent to Ship Island and was paroled at Meridian, Mississippi on May 13, 1865.
