Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/xhC.2ACE/832.1 Message Board Post: Liberty VA is now called Bedford, west of Lynchburg VA where the 61st Alabama campaigned in 1864. On this date in 1864 the regiment had marched across the Potomac River with Jubal Early's army and was approaching Washington DC from the northwest. As for a burial at Liberty, if this grave received a permanent marker (a BIG if), your query might get results on a Bedford County VA site in RootsWeb. You might also consider posting on the "Alabama in the Civil War Message Board": http://history-sites.com/cgi-bin/boards/alcwmb/index.cgi? Queries are posted an answered daily; sometimes within an hour. As for your question about published sources on the 61st Alabama, Ken Jones maintains a current list of all publications on all Alabama units. You should look here: http://www.tarleton.edu/~kjones/rodes.html#61st This will also give you some idea of the regiment's service.
