This is an unusual name; not many of this or similar spellings in any Alabama unit, or units from other states. It's interesting that there is a service record in Company "B", 32nd Alabama Regiment for Andrew J. Leavens/Levens/Leavins. Who is this man? There's a William H. Leavens in Co. "F", 21st Alabama Regiment, also from Mobile. Who is he? There's also a W. D. Leavens in Co. "B", 4th Alabama Regiment from Macon County.

I can't seem to find his military records. He was from Barbour County, Alabama and was enlisted at Mobile Alabama in 1862. Company B, 32nd Regiment, Alabama. According to pension records he fought at Mufreesboro, Tennessee; Jackson, Mississippi; Chicamaugua, Missionary Ridge, Atlanta, and other battles. He was captured near Franklin, Tennessee in early 1865. He was imprisoned at Rock Island, Illinois until the surrender at the close of the war. Any help to find military records or other records would be appreciated. Thank You, Diana

Hi Joan, Nice to meet and hear from another found cousin. I was so excited to see you were kin to Grand-Sir Harrison also. I've just started trying to get some Civil War information on the Harrison Boys that were in the war. I knew three sons was lost, one being my great-grandfather, James M. Harrison, and one grandson, Moses was killed. Alan, a man that responded to my posting has been so helpful. he gave me a site where there are a lot of information on the war and the battles, and the rosters. Do you have much information on Grancer's family? I have been on Grancer the dancer site. It is really a great site. Hope we can try and share some of our information with each other. Please e-mail me personally, and I will share with you information on my family, and where I live etc. Looking forward to hearing from you....Dianne McCall
Alan, For the roll call you mean? Just emails through the list right now for that. I am working on a web page. I think we should stick with the rootsweb message board as it is also a gateway into this list. For those that didn't know, when you post a message on the rootsweb message board, it is suppose to be posted here through this list as well. Haven't received any in a while though. I need to check and make sure nothing strange went on to the list while I was sick. If anyone wants to list their info there too, I'm sure most folks would be happy to see it. I don't have anything to do with the board though, so can't say for sure :-) The web page will be just another way to get our information out there and hopefully garner interest into both the list and rootsweb message board concerning Alabama Civil war ancestors. If I didn't answer your question, please feel free to ask again...I'm still a bit fuzzy, being on these new meds. Take care everyone, Dena

Thanks so much for this offer. I am searching for information on John Hiram Leonidas Moody. He signed up at age 16 with Company K, 20th Alabama Infantry. He was taken prisoner at the Battle of Lookout Mountain, and served time in Rock Island Arsenal Prison in Illinois. If anyone has information, I would be most grateful. There was not a "prison", per say. It was the 3rd story of the depot downtown where they give tours today. The upstairs was closed for many years. It has been reopened fairly recently, and the soldiers that were there wrote on the walls. It is covered by plexiglass to protect it. There is some artwork on the wall also from the soldiers too. Hope this helps.
