I have three Dale County, AL marriage license in the late 1800's example 1893 and 1885 and another one. They all have on them the groom is pay the sum of $200.00 to the State of Alabama. A second person signs the agreement with the groom. Can anyone tell me why they had to pay this $200.00? June
