    3. No, Carolynn, not at all unusual. I've even gone to the original census pages in the archives and examined them page by page looking for folks I knew to have been in the county during specific census years, and have found not only families missing but in some cases entire communities. One trick that works (occasionally) when a family was not skipped but mis-indexed is to check for the families living on both sides of their household during the previous and following enumeration. If you can tell me who Reuben's neighbors were in 1860 and in 1880, I will check to see who was living nearby those folks in 1870. Or - just tell me where they were found in 1860 and 1880 and I will check when I have time. Still - Reuben with the railroad, they may not have had the same neighbors for very long at a time.
