I have seen in the rootsweb town and state search that Morengo County and Geneva County are both listed as being Geneva Al. I would appreciate a census lookup of John Peters born abt Sept,1797,and died abt,1888.Im not sure if his wife was named Biddie, but believe it was.I want so much to know who else was in his household. The year for the lookup I guess could be 1820,30,40,or 50....I just need to know what children he had,so Im at a loss as to what year to look up. Any help would be appreciated so very much. Thank you, Best Regards, Shirley
Shirley, Per the GNIS, present-day Geneva is in Geneva County, but it may have been in another county early on. Does this have anything to do with John Peters? The only John Peters indexed in the 1880 census who was born prior to 1800 was in Jackson County, so I followed that one back through the census years to 1850 to be sure I was giving you the right one. There were several indexed in 1850 Alabama, but of course, none in Geneva County (not formed until 1868), none in Marengo. The guidelines for the lookup requests state one year at a time, but because I had to do the search anyhow, am sending what I found, moving forward from 1850. No one except the head of household was named in any census year prior to 1850. His wife's name was Obedience, and yes, she'd most likely have been called "Biddie". 1850 Jackson County, Alabama - District 21 - November 23, 1850 - page 127 335 - John Peters, age 50?; farmer; $1550; born TN Obedience, age 37; born AL Uriah, age 16; labourer; born AL Daniel L., age 15; labourer; born AL John, age 12; born AL James M., age 11; born AL Lucinda, age 9; born AL 1860 Jackson County, Alabama - District 3 - PO Paint Rock - June 8, 1860 - page 593 132 - John Peters, age 59; farmer; $3300/1000; born TN Obedience, age 42; born AL James M., age 21; farmer; born AL William, age 16; farmer; born AL Lucinda, age 18; born AL 1870 Jackson County, Alabama - Subdivision 4 - PO Woodville - June 21, 1870 - page 185 45 - Peters, John, age 73; farmer; $2500/300; born TN Obedience, age 54; keeping house; born AL Uriah, age 35; farm labor; born AL William L., age 9; born AL Tipton, Bridges J., age 28; farm labor; born AL Lucinda, age 25; at home; born AL You can find John Peters as a widower in the 1880 Jackson County census, (enumerated with his son, John, and family), at the LDS website: http://www.familysearch.org Good luck!
