    3. Angie, Working under the assumption that your Colemans were not slaves - I checked for families indexed in the state of Alabama who were enumerated as free blacks, and there were no Coleman or Coalmans listed. One Polly Coleman indexed in 1860 Mobile County, age 80, mulatto, born in SC, living with Susan Winter, age 57, mulatto, also born SC. There's one C. Coleman in 1860 Alabama, enumerated as white, age 23, with apparent wife, N. Coleman, age 21 and daughter AC, aged 7 months. No birthplace was written, which indicates that this C. Coleman was born in Alabama. There's only one Carter Coleman indexed in the US. He was white, age 22, born in TN, enumerated in 1860 Arkansas. Sorry I wasn't able to help. Don't know when this family arrived in Alabama. It also says his father was from-Maryland and his mom-Virginia. I haven't found anything other than census records to prove that. Carter's wife Adeline b: abt 1830/VA-was from Virginia. Still haven't been able to find any family for the too or a maiden name for Adeline. Would be glad to find anything I can on them. > > Angie > > > ==== AL-CENSUS-LOOKUP Mailing List ==== > To view completed census transcriptions online > http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/census/inv/index.html > > ============================== > Gain access to over two billion names including the new Immigration > Collection with an Ancestry.com free trial.
