I wasn't able to find this family in 1930 Alabama, so went back to take a look at 1920, hoping for some further clues. Based on the fact that the 16-year-old daughter shown on the 1920 census was named Vivian instead of Virginia, I believe this to be your Paul Smith, who says this time that he was born in AL instead of MS, though Mary (Lula?) and Vivian were born in MS. And yes, the daughter's name was definitely Vivian in 1920. 1930 Mobile County, Alabama - Mobile City, Precinct 10 - April 7, 1930 - ED 89/Sheet 7A 762 Broad Street 149 - Smith, Paul, head; owns/$5000; M W 52 Md @ age 21; AL AL AL; construction/sawmill Mary, wife; F W 51 Md @ age 19; MS MS MS Masters?, Vivian, dau; F W 26 Md @ age 19; born MS; bookkeeper/furniture store ___achal, son-in-law; M W 26 Md @ age 19; AL AL AL; driver/laundry Good luck!
