    1. [AL-CEN] Re: [AR-CENSUS-LOOKUP] AR look up for 1870 Clowers
    2. Linda Murray
    3. Mildred, Harriet Clowers was still in Marion County, Alabama in 1870, but Henry and Tipton Clowers appear to be nephews instead of sons. Harriet and Doctor Clowers' children per the 1850-1860-70 census were Jacob W., born ca 1840 James E. (probably Ephriam), born ca 1842 Malinda, born ca 1843 Reese, born ca 1844 Amanda, born ca 1845 Thomas Jefferson, born ca 1846 Narcissa, born ca 1847 Eliza A., born ca 1850 Sidney, born ca 1854 She was apparently widowed prior to 1860 and appears in the Alabama Land records, Huntsville, September 1, 1860, as Harriet A. Clowers, so the "A" may be a clue to her maiden name. I found them indexed in 1850 Talladega County as "Doctor Clovers". Is your interest in Harriet, or in one of the other Clowers living near her in 1880 Arkansas? John, Henry, and Tipton Clowers belong to Hellary (or Henry) and Ferriba Hinton Clowers who married in Meriwether County, Georgia, in 1838 and were enumerated in 1840 Tallapoosa County, 1850 Talladega County and 1860 Marion County, Alabama. I've not been able to locate any of this family in the 1870 census, but two of their children, Henry and John, married in Yell County, Arkansas, in 1872 and 1877. Another Arkansas marriage lists an Adaline Clowers who married in 1872 in Conway County Hellary and Ferriba's children were: James M., born ca 1840 Martha A., born ca 1842 John, born ca 1844 Henry, born ca 1846 Tipton, born ca 1848 Mary Ann, born ca 1850 Adaline, born ca 1852 Let me know which family is yours, and I will see what census years I have to send. BTW, I believe that both Doctor and Hellary are sons of Jacob Clowers, born ca 1776 or so. All censuses taken after 1930 are still confidential and the information they contain is not open to the public. The census from 1790 through 1840 only named the head of the household and the numbers of people in categories — 3 males over 16, 2 males under 16, etc. The census from 1850 through 1930 lists each member of the household and usually gives the relationship to the head of the house. It also gives age (later years give birth month and year) and place of birth (usually just the state or foreign country). The 1890 census was almost totally destroyed by fire so there is a 20 year gap between 1880 and 1900. > CENSUS LOOKUPS HOME PAGE http://www.rootsweb.com/~censlook/ > > ============================== > Gain access to over two billion names including the new Immigration > Collection with an Ancestry.com free trial.
