He and his two brothers, Needham and Wiley, left their parents and SC for Pike Co., AL., in about 1837 according to two Adams researchers who have been doing this a lot longer than I have. The Adams boys would probably be hard to find in any census during the first years they were in AL., however, because they were on the run a good bit in their moonshining business.
