Indexed in 1830 are William in Madison County, and Dixon and Joseph in Mobile. 1830 Madison County, Alabama - Range 1 & 2 - Roll 4/page 87 William Wainwright - 2300001 - 001001 (2 free white males aged under 5, 3 aged 5-10, 1 aged 40-50 - 1 free white female aged 10-15, 1 aged 30-40) The only listings shown for a Sam or Samuel Wainwright in earlier census years is one indexed in 1800 New Haven, CT, and in 1810 and 1820 in Vermont. I suspect that your Samuel Wainwright was living during those years in one of the states for which the census enumeration was lost or destroyed.
