    3. Cathryn, Choctaw wasn't formed until 1847, so there is no 1840 census for that county. There are also no Joseph or JJ Whiteheads indexed for any county in 1840 Alabama, but there are several Johns. One enumerated in Henry County indicated a John Whitehead in the 40 to 50 year age range - one enumerated in 1840 Macon County gives age in the 30-40 age range, and a Jonathan Whitehead in 1840 Sumter County was aged 70 to 80. None of these appear to be the one you need aged 20-30, and of course, birthplace and names of other family members are not given until 1850, so there's no way to search for one with a wife named Martha or any Whitehead born in North Carolina. There are also no JJ Whiteheads indexed in 1840 Georgia - one Joseph shown as enumerated in Habersham County, but that one's age was given as in the 60 to 70 age range. The only John Whitehead indexed in 1840 Georgia was in Burke County and in the 50-60 year age range. Sorry I wasn't able to help.
